Snowsong
I got the disc copy and it installed on my computer in only about 20 minutes. I think you must have done something wrong. Exit out of the steam download and then push the button that ejects your disc, then push the disc back in again. It should download in like 20 minutes. OR maybe your internet connection is just really, really, really slow.
sarnz
You have to manually load the launcher from the CD, if you let it do the autorun install, then it will try to download it from steam for god knows what reason. Stupidest thing I've ever seen. After a quick google search I learned that ;) It will install the whole game from CD, and the last 200mb from steam, probably for 'anti-piracy' reasons. Vindekarr
Bah I had the shock of my life when I installed Skyrim-ever since I flipped STEAM and my ISP over to servers less than a mile from my house I've been enjoying crazily fast speeds and an end to the bugs that used to make me hate STEAM, but with Skyrim and Deus Ex, STEAM could actualy download-install faster than I could disk-install, how does that work?! Anyway I just checked my email, made a coffee, and read the manual-by the time I'd done that(14 minutes) it was ready to go. You've clearly done something wrong here, not even a rustbucket PC should have trouble installing Skyrim quickly. Though if I read between the lines correctly, I think you may have computer issues worse than STEAM. Still, this seems like a disproportionate reaction, and I do feel somewhat sorry for you if you realy can't wait overnight for Skyrim-you're missing out on, undeniably, one of the best, most entertaining, and immersive CRPGs in recent years, certainly far better than even the most heavily modded Oblivion right out of the box, and featuring a lot of modded-in "requested" features straight away-that really impressed me, Beth atleast had a vague idea of what we wanted from Skyrim, and they gave us atleast some of that right away, it's nice not to have to mod a game to enjoy it. RejectedCamel
Let me get this straight - You don't know that the game requires Steam, despite it being announced and discussed over and over and over again, so out of your own ignorance you get angry, despite all you having to do is install one free program, which also happens to be extremely useful and easy to use, and then you come here and rant about it? Pathetic. I do an after-school homework club with 7 year old kids, and they're more mature than you. Grow up.
Darylem
Well...I pre-ordered the game in July and received it today and all I can say is...well, the topic title says it all. I get the game, sit down to load it on my computer only to find out that I have to install Steam, download the game, an wait for 4 f***ing hours! What the f**k is up with that? I don't normally get heated over a game, but this takes the f***ing cake! What a piece of CRAP! Oh well, live and learn! That's $90 I just threw in the trash! I'm going back to Oblivion. Bethesda can kiss my a** for all I care. Hope they enjoy my money! I won't be returning to the Skyrim Nexus, that's for sure. I'll stay with the Elder Scrolls...probably do some more castles. As for Skyrim...you can have it!I found it very frustrating as well, but when I finally got the game installed, I forgot all my frustration. On my laptop, it works better than oblivion, despite the fact that I have just above the minimum requirements. I find it more challenging at low levels. In less than a week, I have put in 30 hours of play time(my job has suffered a bit). It is a great game in my opinion.
InAComaDial999
It will install the whole game from CD, and the last 200mb from steam, probably for 'anti-piracy' reasons. The game installs from the CD, but Steam downloads a patch that was released at the same time as the game. The patch is about 150mb so depending on your connection speed YMMV. At any rate, installing the game from CD for me was no worse than installing any other game.
TheVampireDante
The OP has had their little rant, I see no point in letting this topic continue. Closed.
