Beware of Adware!

When I exit skyrim, I see an ad from steam. Are you all telling me this isn't normal? Does anyone know how to get rid of it? this is actually the second time I have installed steam. Once for civilization v, Had advertisments on steam sales then too... I uninstalled that game because I hated it and steam too. Ads went away. Presumably because steam was no longer installed. I always thought steam did this!! Anyone have any ideas? I have anti-virus software and run it regularly but it doesn't pick anything up.

Steam does have a (weekly?) ad that has some of their (steam products) information on it. Nothing else. This isn't an internet popup, and is hardly annoying since it isn't intrusive nor adware. And it can contain some useful information regarding future steam updates, news, etc. If something like that really bothers you, you need to get over yourself.

No offence, but you come across as kind of loopy. You write off a game and make a melodrama about how you'll never play it again, all because you had problems with installing a simple piece of software that millions of users around the world can get working without a hitch. With all that tinkering and registery digging that you do, it seems pretty likely that it's a case of PEBKAC.

It makes no sense for Steam to install malware (or "adware", whatever that's supposed to mean in this case). Malware is more the domain of single guys trying to sell fake viagra out of a Russian apartment, not highly-respected multi-billion dollar companies. The reason Steam makes billions of dollars is precisely BECAUSE they offer a fluid, hassle-free, and trustworthy platform that millions of people are prepared to use (some because they love it, some because they grudgingly tolerate it). Part of the functionality of that platform is that it regularly communicates with their servers for game patches, cloudsync, friend updates, etc. (which perhaps is triggering your adware detector). But for Steam to put things in there with malicious intentions would go directly against their own interests.

Steam -> Settings -> Interface -> Uncheck the box near the bottom that basically says "show me current sales". It is a simple option, with zero obligation to even have it chosen, though it defaults to being on. It isn't very intrusive, and while it may not seem too obvious how to shut it off, it does at least allow you to do so at any time. That said, I personally leave it on, because some of those sales are really worth grabbing - earlier this week they had Oblivion with all DLC on sale for a whole $6.24 US, well worth finally upgrading my old GOTY version that only had KotN and SI.

*snip*

Another Steam bashing Post? Really? let me say this once more. I own 160 steam titles and have had no issue. I am a professional gamer. I don't just tweak my Operating system I completely control what components and modules are built into it with specialized software and pure old fashioned know how. In-fact i run a OS that most think cant be used to any degree XP 64bit. And when I say you are sadly mistaken about steam being spyware my friend, I am only being honest.

And after just reading your OTHER STEAM bashing post...

Located HERE!!!

I think you are just here for the attention and being an idiot.

He's not even using different wording, is he?
