Middle Earth

I think it completely saps the Tolkien license of all its... Tolkienness. The graphics don't look that great compared to the likes of the cartoony World of Warcraft, the developers are making stupid decisions right from the gate such as not even letting us SIT IN CHAIRS until we flamed/begged them to death and using the Asheron's Call2 (who players that?!?) engine rather than making a new one that would fit Tolkien's "aura."

These guys have one of the most powerful licenses in the world (if the THE most), and they have a huge world to build. Why not go with ALL of Middle-earth, it's not like they can run out of source material ^_^

It suprises me when a company, who's in charge of millions of dollars, and they fail to do something that a community of rabid fans are doing with a budget of zero dollars and zero cents. My suggestion: ignore this "MMO" because that's all it will ever be. Stick with MEmod for some fun Tolkiening.

Do you think having cartoony graphics would give it more "Tolkienness"?

the developers are making stupid decisions right from the gate such as not even letting us SIT IN CHAIRS until we flamed/begged them to death

Who the hell plays games so they can SIT IN CHAIRS? "Ooo, I think I'm going to log on to MEO and sit down for a while! That'd be fun!" Personally I think flaming them about that was the only stupid decision in this case.

...and using the Asheron's Call2 (who players that?!?) engine rather than making a new one that would fit Tolkien's "aura."

Why does it matter who plays Asheron's Call? It's only an engine and it can be given any kind of "aura". Have you seen screenshots from Vampire: Bloodlines? That uses the Half-Life 2 engine and it has a completely different "aura". An engine is the underlying code of the game, and has nothing to do with "aura".

My suggestion: ignore this "MMO" because that's all it will ever be

My suggestion: play the game and decide for yourself if you want, rather than listen to someone who doesn't like the game because he had to flame them to let him SIT DOWN.

me, personally- I would like to try it. While it may not have "all of middle earth", it is being published by Vivendi Universal, which has the rights to the books, not the movie,s so I imagine it will be almost completely, if not totally, accurate. And about playing the MEMod- I would love to, except it isnt out yet.....

i never liked those online MMORPG or whatever their called.

ever since playing everquest i was scared silly, i started off with a friends account, his dad let him sign up for one, and we started to play together, and one night, i decided to log on and play for a while, i killed some guy for a level-up, and i got a death threat in my e-mail, even a letter sent to my house threatened me, fortunantly it doesnt happen anymore, but i doubt many people will play those games anymore, for clear reasons, people who take the game too seriously (look at runescape or everquest for a fine example), people who kill you when you spawn (in everquest, this is one of the biggest problems), and people who constantly abuse you through the chat, same things apply for counter-strike, when i used to play it (version 1.0, i stopped at 1.1) there were no cheaters, no hackers, just people after a good time, now when you play, theres the hackers, the people who take it seriously, people who randomly abuse everyone, and the server hosts who are a pain in the arse sometimes.
