Lineoutt
First off, yes I know there are similar threads to this one. But all of them mention realism with a large combat element, this is fine however humans are weak and squishy and the last thing I want in a game is to be out for a month after one arrow in the chest, some combat realism just makes things impossible to those of us who suck at combat and can barely take the masses that the game throws at you on normal difficulty. Also I can't hear very well so no HUD replaced with heartbeats or magic power sounds does not work for me. This is just for anyone looking for peoples input to make a realism mod that appeals to all regardless of your skill, so add your opinions (in list form preferably since that is much easier to take in) and hopefully we can help make a great game better. PLUS I am ready to offer modest donations to any mod that uses the ideas here. Here are just a few things that I think could really improve the immersion and challenge without making combat impossible for those of us who, lets face it, just naturally suck at combat and are challenged enough with the way it is. - hunger/thirst/sleep levels (you can die from lack of any and be stuffed with food, not sleeping gives you effects such as hearing or seeing things) - temperature affects you (you can freeze to death, temperature ratings on items) - normal map that isnt covered in clouds (because seriously, I'm having enough trouble finding the paths already) - no more giant, hand holding compass and ability to turn it off (however still some smaller compass, and tracking isnt a huge issue since you can turn it off by unclicking the quest) - better PC interface (im thinking DarnifiedUI type thing here) - multiple people able to ride your horse (its an absolute pain escorting when they just kind of walk next to you. - horse non combat item use (torches, etc, maybe even bows but that is technically combat) - portable campsite w/ tent (hopefully one that you can actually be inside and stops snow/rain), fire (cookable and provides heat) - decomposing food (food in dungeons or you have held or has been left out for a certain amount of time loses nutritional value and can make you sick) - alcohol and drug (skooma) effects (accurate visuals/and coordination for alcohol and since skooma appears to be like coke, jittery visuals. That way it'd mean more to partake and be more immersive) - horse care (specifically feeding and petting, i think emotional bonds with characters and horses greatly improve immersion) - ability to be a bard (by this I mean actually playing the lute/flute/drums, something like LOTRO, probably not singing though, unless using a voice and songs already there) - more animations (eat, drink, sleep, like that oblivion mod that made you see yourself getting in bed) - more married activities (can go do things together like go places -on carriage or horse-, play games, chew me out for this one if you want obviously if done tastefully; sleep together, anything else that could make having that special someone feel special -beyond cooking ability, and living in the same house-) - making babies (we'd all like to adopt but it would be all the more exciting to have little hybrids of ourselves, even having them grow up, but thats another level of complicated) And thats it, so let me know what you think and feel free to add your own easy to scan and read lists
AlteredAgain
You are naked or are only wearing clothing, you can get killed with one hit except an unarmed punch. This applies to all playable races of the game including NPCs, even kings, and all other quest-dependent actors. So is life. I know this is combat related, but it should be an example of how far we would need to think to define realism in a game. I think for any approach to developing a realism mod one should begin with general parameters such as basic survival needs, base health, amount of food, water, and sleep per day, inventory, carry weight, basic unarmed damage, then gradually explore peripheral facets of the game world that keep true to the base values defined. One would for example need to think about how much more damage a dagger does compared to basic unarmed damage, to a playable race, in most cases human race. Non-playable races such as animals, undead, trolls, giants, would need their values adjusted according to that basic armed damage, but that's still further in the periphery. I guess when the CK is released modders will be able to dive right into the code and the guys working on various realism projects can get a good look at how basic values are defined in vanilla Skyrim. That's when the work can really take off. I do like the ideas of being able to set up a tent, being able to make fire, using tools to cook food, having a notebook to write custom notes, only able to carry two one handed weapons, or one two handed weapon at a time. No more hoarding weapons in the backpack and one set of arrows. Also requiring a pouch to keep ingredients and jewelry, though one could argue whether jewels, books, and ingredients should have any carry weight at all for it is also just as important to keep in mind that a realism mod should never get annoying. That's all I got for now. Keep ideas flowing. We're only at the very beginning.
AlteredAgain
just had an idea on food. besides the fact that cooking it should increase its benefits, it still feels weird to eat 50 apples to regain full health. if we could mod it the way so that you can only eat a certain amount of food units before full, maybe also make food always regenerate health rather than instantly heal it. so for example eating one apple may only regenerate 2 hitpoints in 60 seconds, not even noticable. however taking those apples and making an apple pie would regenerate say 20 hitpoints in 60 seconds or other value that becomes a noticeable difference just to illustrate the point that cooking should have an incentive in this game, but also not act like a stimpack. xPossessedx
someone said http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/465230-winter-style-clothingarmor-for-skyrim/ could be a good addition to that realism mod you're thinking of.
Ashbean
a few ideas of my own: -you can't sprint when severely injured-waiting no longer restores health/passive health regen removed, you have to sleep to restore health, or use potions/food/healing spells-make nighttime significantly darker, and maybe your sleep levels drop faster at night? (maybe not for khajiit) will add more if any occur to me
