waldoyamada
I need something to reference to when I'm modding and I can't seem to find a paper back reference material to have handy (book). I see Seddon4494 made some tutorials but I figured someone with a better explanation can help me out. I wanted to test out the modding and place a companion NPC and went with Seddon's tutorial, followed it to the T and all seem's to be working except when I go and talk to my potential NPC Companion he's just silent and there's no dialogue. I shoot him and he dies, and the name turns red. Can anyone tell me what's going on? I'm very new to modding and I don't seem to understand what's going on with the Potential Companion NPC. NorthWolf
No, most games do not have any kind of reference material printed for their toolsets. The best you could do is print out helpful tutorials if you need a paper reference. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with your problem or I could try to give advice, but the best I could suggest is finding another tutorial that covers the same subject and see if following its steps works. Rabbit1251
This is the Bethesda Official Tutorial. Unfortunately it does leave much to be desired. http://www.creationkit.com/fallout4/index.php?title=Main_Page The Rabbit
waldoyamada
Hey all, thanks for the reply, I scrubbed and did a new NPC and followed Seddon4494's tutorial on making a companion and it worked like a charm. I guess I wasn't paying attention to detail as much. Especially when having to close the CK and you lose all your work. I had to actually find out that you have to click the set to active file on the custom plugin to keep your work going as intended. The issue that my NPC died was not ticking him as essential which was why I could kill him. I thought I ticked essential but the constant erasure of my custom plugin kept coming up. So that issue is solved. With the mute companion, I think the best thing is to have the speaker set to the Custom NPC just to filter out the .WAV files because I seemed to have mixed a lot of my vanilla voices, which I hope I didn't and so I deleted them in the sound folder in the data folder of the root file and started fresh. All seems to be good and peachy. Lastly, I have two issues I ran into, I've managed to record the dialogue and have my custom companion able to speak his lines and act upon them, but the bad thing is that he seem's to overlap on his lines. As if he has two larynx's lol. I'm still working on the lines and hopefully work more into this mod but would like any suggestions as well as to why his speech is overlapping. I've googled and found that there's a mod that corrects this, or there's a bug in game that makes this happen. Also another reason could be that I need to fresh re install my FO4 which I don't want to. My internet is slow. In anycase, I'll be modding away and hopefully see this corrected when I'm ready to release it. Last one and I hope I don't burden anyone about it is that I clicked the combat tab to put combat dialogue and I want my npc to cycle through the recorded attack subtype category. He keeps saying the first line all the time but not saying the others that I put in. How do I enable him to cycle through the attack subtype?
