CTD on startup, load seems ok

I have decided to pull one last final effort to try and fix me my skyrim before i get rid of it. Spent a week trying to get back to it.. looks like it wont work.

LOOT and TES5Edit say everything is ok, the load order loads up. I've been trying to shuffle it about, moving patches and stuff.. now i really am out of ideas, so i thought maybe i could run in through here. I dont even know what im hoping for, my honest guess is when i try to load the game up it just clutters the memory too much.. i cant for the love of me spot any esp misplacements. Startup crash as if there was a missing master

  1. Can you load a save ? >> If no, use save script cleaner on your save and try again.

Have you tried tu start a new game ?

  • Load all your mods with Tes5edit, if a master is missing, an error message will be displayed in the right pane. (If not already been done)

CTDs troubleshooting page on Reddit.

Have you installed the skse patch or SSME ? (don't install both...)

Backup your ini files if you have modified them and delete the files. Skyrim.ini / SkyrimCustom.ini / SkyrimPrefs.ini found in C:\Users\Utilisateur\Documents\My Games\Skyrim then let the vanilla launcher to autodetect and use best settings for your computer.

Use L.O.O.T once and click on the "sort plugins buttons".

Create a merged patch with Tesedit excluding leveled lists

Create a wryebash patch including leveled lists.

Verify gamecache

Guides and resources on Reddit.

Dangerous mods list.

Make skyrim vanilla again.

I didn't make myself clear, sorry for that. I have rewatched possibly all of Gopher's and GamerPoets' videos in the past week and read all kinds of threads on reddit and here on the Nexus. I have cleaned everything, have been using TES5Edit to check my load (among other things), I have been using LOOT, I did create a Bashed patch, then I successfully ran my DSR and PaMa patches and I hoped my game would actually run after that. The only thing I didn't do was a TES5Merged patch because I didnt feel like I really needed one. I will try to repatch everything and include the TES5Merged in the process, but I don't really think that will change the outcome very much and I fear I will probably just be wasting my time. And yes, obviously, I do use SKSE which I understand has the memory patch included since 1.7.0.

Skyrim runs just fine via the launcher, so something going on with the mods, only CTDs when I run SKSE, I just thought maybe there was something obvious in the load order that I might have missed.

I'm gonna try to test out the "dangerous mods" and maybe just go and try to single out mods to see if any one of those causes the ctd.

 

As for the CTD, it happens at the Skyrim main screen with the dragonborn splash just before the menu appears, I have never run a proper new game on this setup, theres no saves to load, I have only run a new game a couple of times just to check for function or compatibility in the process of modding up, but there was never any saves i cared to keep.

 

Also I don't believe there is such thing as too many mods. When I played Skyrim last time I had roughly about 240 esps and my game ran just fine with almost no crashes. Also from what I saw on everyone's load orders, 200 is in my opinion the standard number.

CTD at startup is usually missing master.

 

If you used MO it would alert you of this. OR you can run your load order through TES5Edit.

 

Darstyler provided you with all the info you need. Up to you to follow it.

 

There is no "standard" number of esps. All depends on personal preferences and mod selection. I run half of that. And my game is very pretty and excellent performance wise.

 

 

also....when modding your game (GamerPoets also advocates this) TEST TEST TEST after every few mods. Lazy modding always leads to problems and then people coming here or to other places wanting others to fix thier mess.

That's the most interresting thing you've provided since the beginning, and this seems to indicate the problem is around skse.

  • Run skyrim with all your mods unticked, this will ensure it is or it is not mod related.
  • Make sure your skse installation is healthy. Reinstall manually if necessary. Make sure the files are not in the wrong place.
  • Make sure you don't have any other skse plugins that could conflict.
  • Rename your C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\SKSE\SKSE.ini to invalidate it temporarilly >> test iin game. If it worked, make sure you didn't have d3dx9_42.dll and SSME.ini in your skyrim folder. Having both these files and using skse.ini are redundant and will lead to problems.
  • Turn off any overlays or programs running in the background. Make sure your firewall and antivirus program don't block skse... Create exception rules if necessary.
  • Make sure -forcesteamloader is in MO's SKSE launcher executable options (should be done automatically, check it).
  • If using windows 10, set ExpandSystemMemoryX64=false in ENBlocal.ini.
  • Make sure ENB is configured correctly. See here.
  • This can also be caused if you didn't actually put the enb preset files into the skyrim folder correctly.

Thanks for the quick help. Will look into the SKSE setup. I had this issue when I was adding mods and it went away with RS children and all its patches. So it seems some mods clutter my load up for some reason and it's indeed a fault of the load order and not SKSE per se. Guess I will just have to find out. If you dont see anything in the load order as such (I know theres a lot and I don't want to ask you to go through it) then you can probably just lock this and wish me luck.

 

I didn't mean to sound nasty. Sorry if that came about. I do appreciate the help. I was just a bit annoyed by the crashes no matter what I did and it seemed you didn't read what I came here with and just provided with some generic CTD answers. My bad, and once again thanks for the attention.

As I said it's easy to see if it's mod related, untick all your mods and start a new game. In 5 minutes you'll have your answer.

 

That doesn't explain why the game doesn't work with skse, unless your load order has so much scripts requirements that the game crashes. In that case you'll just have to use a selective loading and start the game with the less scripted mods as possible.

 

It's difficult to judge your problem particularly when english is not my primary language (thanks google translator) and also because the important informations come few at a time. Now I think we should have the whole picture and you should have everything to correct the problem in a way or another.

I'm back! Sorry to bother you again, but couldn't find answers elsewhere. Looks like I was going about it all wrong. I thought it was some other mods, but the CTD goes away when I disable the PaMa patch. In TES5 when I check the PatchusMaximus.esp for errors I get a bunch of different lines. So.. is my problem the fact that some mods should go on the blocklist?

 

Ones are about reforged saddles - is it safe to presume Immersive horses just like Convenient horses should be exempt from the patcher?

Does the error say in some way where the error comes from or what mod maybe? Or are those errors presumably the cause of the crash? When I disable the patch, game loads.

Your files make reference to an object it is unable to find = [06001312] < Error: Could not be resolved >

 

  • [06001312] = 06 should be the load order of the file containing this object.. (In fact no, Tesedit believes it's 06 but it can be 05 or 07) Either you reinstall the missing file, (which one, I don't know) either you get rid of your patch. Refer to the documentation concerning your patch. Use Tes5edit to load all your actual load order. If a master is missing it will stop loading and show an error message in the right pane. If it doesn't stop loading, either these are bad edits, either your file use injection approach as explained in the last part of my post. But if a master is missing = CTD

 

  • It can also be the fact you have added with Tes5edit some masters to a file, (add master function) without using the "sort master function". This has a tendancy to move the order of the other required master and the plugin doesn't know they are always in the file header masterfiles, but not in the same order, so that all the related references are not recognized anymore = <error can't resolve>. When you've saved and reloaded the plugin + check errors, it's a mess. Did you do anything like that ?

 

  • If so don't bother to edit this plugin to correct it, just extract a new one from the mod archive. Important ! If extracting a new file gives the same errors, the mod you're using is not clean. I advise you to not use such files as they can lead to problems... Unless you're able to correct them or they use injection approach as explained below.

 

  • Some files use injection approach so that they are not needed as a master in other plugins. For example, you can use references from weapons & armor fixes without adding it as a master to your plugin. It also mean that Tesedit won't load WAF automatically and if not loaded, you'll have such errors... So try to load all your plugins when you have these errors to see if it's the case. If no error when loading everything, it only means Tesedit doesn't manage this approach automatically and you should not bother anymore with these errors.
