staveoffzombies
I apologize in advance as I realize these topics must crop up all of the time. However, I've been lurking these forums for some time, and you all seem like a decent group of people, so I bring my question to you. My wonderful wife purchased me the Oblivion GOTY Edition for Christmas. However, we are at my Parents right now, 600 miles from home. So I won't be able to actually play this game on my comp for a week or so. Here are my computer specs (I don't have my exact specs so I'm going from memory here):AMD Athlon 3000+ or something1 GB DDR2 RAMRadeon 9600 All-in-Wonder 128MB (I'm thinking this is the weakest point here) I've tried running the game on my sister's comp here, and things only tend to run with everything quite low. Her specs are quite similar to mine, which is why I'm slightly concerned. Her specs:AMD Athlon 3500+ 64894 MB RAMATI Radeon Xpress 200 128 MB I'm guessing her card is probably the big hindrance for her system, which is why I'm holding out hope that it will run better on my machine. I don't need anything too fancy, I would like to have the long draw distance as well as water reflections...but everything else isn't as important. Anyways, what kind of expectations should I have for my system? Christmastime is considerably expensive, so it'll probably be a couple of months before I have the resources to upgrade. Thank you all in advance!

Crisb92
I'm not incredibly well versed with AMD, being more of a nvidia/ intel fan myself, but I do not think that Oblivion will work well on that computer. I would suggest upgrading by adding another 1GB of RAM and getting a better graphics. While the CPU is important, I would go for these upgrades before that. Plus the Graphics Card really needs 256MB of VRAM, 128 just isnt enough. If you want any tips on what to upgrade too, just list your full system and I'll get back to you. TheTerminator2004
The processor and RAM are fine, but the graphics card just won't be able to cope, I'm afraid. You'll want at least 256mb graphics memory to be able to run Oblivion properly (with my old 256mb card, I could run it at medium kind of settings, with the rest of my specs fairly similar to yours). staveoffzombies
Alrighty, thanks all. Actually, along the lines of my question...what kind of setting could I get with my current settings? Honestly, I don't care about some of the fancy stuff....Specular lighting and bloom and such I don't care about, nor do I care about grass being there. What I WOULD like it to be able to play at at least 800X600 resolution with Medium textures, the farthest view distance, as well as reflective water....but I'm guessing that might be too much to ask. TheTerminator2004
I think it might be, yeah. your graphics card just doesn't have the memory to handle it. You might be able to get it to work at lowest settings though, the only way to be sure is to try- no two computers, even if they have identical specs- are the same, though I doubt that'll count for much here. staveoffzombies
Yeah, and I figure if it really gets bogged won, I can always just drop the view distance. I won't get the stunning vistas, but at least can have some good playability. I think I'd rather sacrifice view distance if it means I could have better textures.
