Blackreach's War Quarters would make a neat player home...

Just a consideration, but:

1) the place has no enemies

2) it's close to the Great Lift to Raldbthar

3) There's already 6 normal stone beds and a master bed, so it can easily be made Multiple Adoption friendly

4) It's in a rare, relatively safe area of Blackreach - no enemies in the immediate surrounding

5) It's not radiant enabled so you won't break anything or have to worry about quests messing your house up

6) there's a lore-friendly reason for it being free, being abandoned in Blackreach and all - it makes sense you'd just waltz in and make yourself at home

There's two containers too, but the area does respawn, so they aren't safe to use as-is. Also, since it's Blackreach, I doubt you could excuse Nord architecture being used in it. The place is undiscovered besides SInderion, and is Dwemer through and through, so you'd need to use Dwemer containers and furniture... which would be fine. Too many "Dwemer" houses are full of modern Nord junk despite being supposedly thousands of years old, and there ARE Dwemer decorations that can be used. This is THE chance to make a 'true' Dwemer house, in all its glory. :-)

(as an aside, could also have a malfunctioning Centurion as guard outside who mistakenly recognizes you as its 'master' so that eventual family or friends will be safe. Those Dwemer Gundams are more than enough to protect the area. Think of it as Blackreach's housecarl)

Just an idea...

That is a really good idea. Unfortunately, I am working on a project right now. When it is done, I might see what I can do with this.

I'm satisfied with having given someone ideas, hehe. I'll wait and hope something comes from this. Crossing my fingers... :-)

Are you looking for a static player home or one with Hearthfire compatibility?

Honestly, I'd be happy with anything. Static is simpler, I guess. That said, there ARE multiple beds, but on the other hand it's *Blackreach* - not exactly a kids friendly place, lol. Having Hearthfire Multiple Adoption compatibility would be nice for those wanting to RP a lunatic crazy enough to drag his whole family to an ancient Dwemer underground city, but is maybe a bit excessive.

Then again I'm usually a vampire, and anyone stupid enough to marry me probably asked for it, hahaha.

In the end, I'd say 'whatever you feel comfortable doing'.

...there's no areation inside though, so maybe leave forge/smelter/etc outside? My character isn't a fan of suffocating to death, lol. Those Hearthfire houses with their UNDERGROUND forges, I tell you... that's suicide right there.

Also, probably nothing like a common garden. Blackreach grows mostly fungi, so I'd imagine mushroom patches at most for 'cultivation'. And even that's a stretch - it only works in my mind because fungi can thrive even unattended, unlike most other cultivating plants.

Just some considerations. Hope it helps.

I was thinking more like you could add to the stuff by building it with materials like Dwemer metal. Hearthfire already adds the code for that (if I can learn how to use it lol). I'd definitely start with a static player home, and then add Hearthfire compatibility near the end. I'm pretty good at copying architecture and interior design that already exists in the game, so I should be able to get an authentic looking house. That being said, I'll keep this in the back of my mind until I'm done with my current project. I have a lot of ideas for it.

I'll trust you on that. My modding skill consists of 'make the CK crash in 10 seconds', lol.

One thing to note: if you plan on a fireplace, having one that can be toggled on or off is probably a good idea immersion-wise. I can't think of any fire that can stay lit for 4000 years, aside maybe for the First Flame of Dark Souls... >_> Alternatively, it could be, as you suggested, a Hearthfire-style house upgrade that needs to be triggered (ie, you built the upgrade yourself). ...or maybe it's a lava flow. Because I can totally see the Dwemer roasting marshmallows over freaking lava. Then again, Sinderion's lab was a Dwemer house with a fireplace...

...imagine if you hired a housemaker from the surface to renovate your house and then casually sent him to Blackreach lol. I'd imagine he'd spend the first few days muttering about how he let himself be talked into rebuiding an ancient Dwemer ruin a couple miles underground by some crazy adventurer who obviously doesn't have all his marbles together if he WANTS to live there.

Then he'd spend the next few days drooling over the chance to learn Dwemer architecture and probably running from Falmer a lot when he inevitably runs afoul of them. >_>

On a side note, how the hell is it possible to find fruits in some Blackreach containers? It's been millennia since it was inhabited, there wouldn't even be dust left...

I'll stop rambling now. Will look forward to news in the future. Good luck with your current project, and... may I inquire as to what it is? Might want to check it out...

EDIT: I noticed that the Farm Overseer's House is similarly in a relatively safe area, uninhabited and not a radiant quest target. It also comes with a mushroom farm!

Unlike the War Quarters, however, there is no lift to the surface within easy reach, so that one is more for hardcore Blackreach denizens. Might work as a starter for 'make your own Blackreach mini-settlement', where you can eventually rebuild the other two ruined farmhouses and recruit people to move in them. Though where you'll find people mental enough to live with you in Falmerland is beyond m--

*looks at the average College of Winterhold researcher*

--nevermind, there's plenty of nutjobs who will readily take you up on the offer...

Wow that's a lot of ideas. I like to start small, as to not overwhelm myself. My current project is a warehouse in Whiterun: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/77003/?

I'm just adding one warehouse right now, and I'm about to start the basement. Eventually I'd like to add multiple warehouses and a quest line, but that's for another day

A warehouse, eh? Warehouses mean rat infestations. I guess it'll involve skeever cleanup, hahaha.
