Crash on Fast Travel

VII07

Recommended Posts

I got some mods, but out of nowhere I started getting a LOT freezes during fast travel sometimes, but it always crash at a certain location, more specifically Field's Shack/New Vegas Clinic area. Disabling all mods doesn't work, as it crashes all the same. Reloading a save I made 12h earlier works though, even with all the mods. Is there any console command/workaround I can use to solve this? It's apparently a quick save problem, but I'd hate to waste 12h of gameplay... PCB doesn't work too...nor dying...

Here's my load order, though I doubt it matters:

I'd first try disabling the save on fast travel and save on rest and save on wait options and instead install CASM, it automates the saving process for you and avoids the save-crash some people have. That might be your problem, if it seems more precisely timed from a save then it might be the restocking vendors, something in the lists is the problem. I haven't used the New Vegas Error Corrections BugFixes so i don't know about that

vyebrows gives excellent advice. I drastically improved my experience using CASM. Also, the error correcting patches didn't work for me - well they did on the vanilla game, but on a heavily patched one i found them to do "less" good - however, this is not a criticism of those mods or their authors.

Lastly, i had some bad crashes in those areas - specifically around the medical clinic and crimson. I found AWOP to be the culprit, but only because i was running an old version. Have you updated your mods and especially AWOP recently? I did a complete update of all mods and reinstalled everything (to be safe) and in the end lost zero hours of playing time.

This is the advice i gave another person a week ago;

Dont quicksave, ive had issues with quicksaving in the past. Make sure to turn off all ingame save features, save on wait, save on sleep, etc. Now that the only way is to save manually and its a hassle; get CASM. Its a auto saving mod which saves for you every _ minutes with _ number of increments.

Now on topic; i believe your issue has to do with your load order and the number of mods your running. If you havent created a mergepatch with FNVedit try it. Then run masterupdate, just these two simple steps gets rid of many mod conflicts and gives a better crash free game. Just a note; creating a mergepatch doesnt get rid of every single conflict so i recommend you learn how to do it manually. You can get rid of every conflict if you do it manually; it isnt hard to learn and FNVedit is very user friendly once you know how things work.

Try getting rid of some mods that are unnecessary. If you cant at all; and you need every single one mentioned above, i suggest you learn how to merge .esps to lessen up your load order. Again you can do this in FNVedit as well.

Try the FakeFullScreen mod. For some odd reason, FNV seems to run much better when its in window mode. All fakefullscreen mod does is basically let you run in fullscreen when your actually running in window mode. So, its a win win situation for both you and the game.

For load order i suggest you try BOSS, it comes with fallout mod manager, but to make sure you should get he mod itself from the nexus. Use BOSS, then rearrange the mods that it doesnt recognize yourself. Make sure to read up on the readme load order portion of the mods you downloaded for more information, but BOSS does a pretty good job keeping the load order nice.

Try not to reload saves a lot nor tab out too much. Tabbing should be okay if your running the fakefullscreen mod but from personal experience i tend to get CTD's when i reload saves or tab out frequently. When you die and reload a save its perfectly fine, what i mean is manual reloading.

Always make sure you have the latest NVSE, nvse gets updated quite frequently and sometimes people tend to update their mods but they forget to update NVSE; in which the mods requiring the latest NVSE screws with the game.

And yes do get the 4GB loader, its a life saver.

Dont forget to grab the New Vegas Configurator mod; its a nice handy utility that lets you modify ini values you normally cant through the launcher setting menu or from FOMM. It comes with a nice performance portion in which lets you edit them directly from this mod.

Take a look at this for a more in depth ini tweak http://segmentnext.c...as-tweak-guide/

Dont forget to look at the tweak guides from TweakGuides.com, they have some handy information you can always use.

Thats all i can think of from the top of my head mate. Will update this if i think of anymore, but i think thats a lot of viable information that'll keep you busy for a couple of days. Goodluck and have fun :)

yeah i have a different problem,but similar.

so i have a shitload of mods, but this happened yesterday: i was traveling when suddenly all my mod items got "corrupted" they turned into exclamation marks in-game (they were already working correctly before) and i could not open the menu with esc, after 10 seconds the game crashed. now it seems to happen all the time, especially after fast travels.

is there some mod incompability issue with this?

I had the exact same difficulty, but with only 80 mods in this was not a too many mods prob. The save/menu options disappeareed, and makeup/non default texture on Marina companions face! After reinstalling the game and reactivating all the mods, a cure (not necessarily the original problem though) tuned out to be having a conflicting Weapon Mod Expansion plugin: WME-DLC, with WME-Aeronovalis. I deleted the former. This was not a full resolution because the WME-dlc wasn't loaded in the original corrupted loadout.

This may not be the principal problem, i noticed that the Red exclaimation marks were (when the problem was resolved) the cactusses's...(!) ie this was a landscape detail (ID's 6f0174df etc) conflict which should have nothing to do with WME. I reinstall Vurts Wasteland flora, which had no effect. The problem originally started around temporarily reinstalling NCR CF, not necessarily the mod causing the problem but incomplete uninstallations possibly as this mod can use a variety of others.

*UPDATE* Finally found the problem, it wasn't any of the stuff in the above paragraph. It was a CORRUPT MERGED PATCH made using FNVedit. This was a real pain to identify. It only becomes noticeable when you make a new Merged Patch, and when the process has finished, there is a single line in the list of Mods merged which says 'error'. i deleted the MP, and ran the game without it... no landscape detail problems red exclaimation marks.

I guess re doing FNVedit is the next step... but after a week trying to track this *!!+!^^* down.... Fkit.
