Creating Custom Sign- Reilly's Rangers

Recommended Posts

Hey Nexus Forums,

This is likely to be the first post of many, as I am working on a large modding project (and I don't know much about the Creation Kit). But today, I have a specific question- I'm trying tomake a sign that says "Reilly's Rangers" on it, but I don't know how to access letters in game, or how to put them onto a sign template. Can anyone give me some tips on how to either find the resources for specific letters that I can use to spell out a sign (A,B,C, etc.) or how I can create custom signs of my own using different software, and then import it in FO4 using the CK.

Thanks!

I'm about to do the same thing in about 10 minutes. The way I figure, this is how I was going to do it (I've new to modding):

Open up static items in CK. Look for a sign that has the general shape/layout I'm looking for. Duplicate the static item and rename it so it fits my mod.

Use the BAE extractor and remove that sign's nif from the appropriate bsa. Find out what textures they use and extract those too.

Take the _d .dds texture file and open it in GIMP. Edit it so it's blank and then use the gimp tools to make my own sign. Save it.

Edit the nif file so it points to the edited textures.

Open up the Ck again and edit the static item I created and make sure it's pointed to my custom nif. Save it.

Place my static object in game via the render window. Save.

I think that's pretty much it.

There are no letters in the game. But if you want letters like the neon ones I made in the top of this pic you can make them in Max or Blender. Otherwise, as Gersidi76 said, you can re-texture an existing sign like the bottom one in this picture.
