Shocker2k9
title is a bit long but it explains exactly what i want/need, too many times ive found enchanted gear that my companion wouldnt wear, i cant see the logic in refusing to wear it, because in a lot of cases the gear is downright better than the standard gear they wear, so all im asking is a button be implemented on the companion trade window that when clicked forces the companion to equip the gear
Beriallord
title is a bit long but it explains exactly what i want/need, too many times ive found enchanted gear that my companion wouldnt wear, i cant see the logic in refusing to wear it, because in a lot of cases the gear is downright better than the standard gear they wear, so all im asking is a button be implemented on the companion trade window that when clicked forces the companion to equip the gear Are you trying to give them light armor, when they are wearing heavy armor, or the other way around? Some companions that use a Greatsword, I tried handing a Warhammer to, because its also 2 handed, and wouldn't auto equip it unless I removed their greatsword. But if I handed them a better quality greatsword, they would auto equip it. Companions have a weapon preference. I never had a problem with them auto-equipping armor, if I gave them an improved version of the one they were using. And there is no reason you wouldn't want to give them the same armor they use because they have some skill in it. If you are trying to give them a different armor type its possible the armor they are wearing that they are skilled in gives them better protection than the armor you are trying to give them, which means they won't auto-equip it. I just tried giving Vilkar Glass armor, and he wouldn't equip it, which means his basic heavy armor gives him better protection, because he is skilled in heavy armor. If I give him Daedric, he will auto-equip it. If you got more than 40 or 50 in an armor, and have some perks, the very best armor of the opposite type is going to be worse than the worst armor of the type you are skilled in. Shocker2k9
nope, tried giving lydia a steel chest of heavy+12 while she only wears a normal steel chest and she wouldnt equip it, not the first time its happened either, on other chars i see the same thing
maboru
Haven't tried it yet in Skyrim because I'm still going it alone but in previous Beth games I'd go to the console, click on the npc and type in showinventory, Then type in removeitem <item refid# 1> (whichever item I want to remove from them, the actual item refid # is shown in showinventory) then either close console and give them what I want them to wear or use or for non companion npcs leave the console open and type in additem <refid #> 1 (I get the ref ids from Wikia if I don't already know them.) However, for some npcs with scripted equipment (special items) as soon as the cell reloads either by reloading a save or going through a cell door then the game gives them their original items back again and they may revert to them. This will of course be unnecessary once the CK is released and the companion modders are able to set up their new companion systems.

Shocker2k9
beriallord you didnt read and understand everything i said. i was not giving her daedric armor, but steel with an enchant, i have done nothing wrong, so stop trying to find a fault when i already know what the fault is and thanks maboru but if its as you said and the game will give them the gear back then id rather do without that hassle not sure if some aspects of the game are harder to mod than others but ive looked for a few mods now that would greatly increase convenience and i havnt been able to find them
