Completely Overwhelmed... :(

Ugh...this has been just a disaster.

 

Ok, start from the beginning....

 

First off, I'm using this as a guideline:

So I do as it says. I installed a fresh new vanilla copy of Fallout 3 GOTY via Steam, launch it, set my graphics settings where I want them in the launcher and get into the game. Runs fine. I close it down and run the Updated Unofficial Patch installer (as admin). Installs, I run the game. Runs fine. Onward.

 

So I spend like two days manually downloading ~150 some odd mods (I have very slow internet) while playing other games. After they are all collected, I load up FOMM and start adding mods to the list in the same order suggested in the guide. After that, I active them carefully in order then head over to LOOT.

LOOT says there are 4 errors which are very simple adjustments in load order and a missed .esm file. Solved. LOOT sees 0 errors in the mod list so I ask it to sort my plugins and save the changes.

 

Then I load up FO3Edit, it loads all my mods with zero errors. BUT THEN! When attempting to create a merged patch (I named mine Bagged and Tagged :P) I get the following:

Wonderful.

 

Seeing as how I am not a protectron, I have no idea WTF 09054E49 means. So I "check for errors" on each of my mods (and base game and expansions) individually. Which gives me this:

ALL of those ^ .esm and .esp files were chocked full of colorful error messages I could make no sense of. Since I can't diagnose these error logs, I have to seek a translator. Check out the link to the error log, see if you can figure it out.

 

I am completely overwhelmed. If I start over from scratch, all I can do is follow the instructions. I'd just end up right back here. With a bunch of errors. So what would YOU guys do in this situation? How do I go about making all these mods play nice together like others have?

You have about 45 +/- to many files you are trying to load.

 

Your load list is a complete mess. .esm (Elder Scrolls Master) files must always load before .esp (Elder Scroll Plugin) files.

 

Compatibility patches must load after the last mod that is being patched.

 

You are not reading the instructions for the Blackened patches or the Paradox Ignition install instructions.

 

Do not use LOOT to sort Fallout 3 files. B.O.S.S. should be used for Fallout 3.

 

Did you make the .ini edits in Users/"name"/Documents/MyGames/Fallout3/Fallout.ini?

This much is obvious. Even with my meager amount of knowledge I can look at my load order and see it's completely messed up.

 

 

 

What tool was used to install all those mods with?

 

I downloaded the mods manually via google chrome, Installed and activated them through FOMM, used LOOT for the order (since everyone says DON"T use BOSS), and FO3Edit for the merged patch.

I apologize for my thick head but...Do you mean I'm trying to load too many files simultaneously? Or that I have ~45 files that are redundant?

See...I really wish I just KNEW where all the mods were supposed to go so I didn't have to rely on software. Seems that everyone who has a successful load order set theirs up manually. This is just what LOOT gives me. Which is crap.

Embarrassed, yet, informed. These types of things are basic common sense when it comes to installing these mods and here I am completely over looking them.

I've seen you post this before. But when you start up BOSS it straight up tells you "BOSS is unsupported. Use LOOT for Fallout 3".

Yes. However come to think of it I did that before I deleted and reinstalled the game. so no.

I'll do that now.

Thanks for the constructive feedback, guys keep it comin. I won't rage at you for pointing out what I've done wrong here. This is a learning experience.

People here Omit things ,way too much things to even take notice any more. What you read are assumptions every one is on the same page, where it not be truth. Because no one is, that is an impossibility, no two PC's or boxes are alike, no two setup's are alike so no way to take anything in whole.

 

your caught up in all the excitement. easy to loose one's self in all the garble up messages here or a anywhere.

 

  • Fomm: It installs a folder into the game directory, it's called "install Info", that is where the Fomm's based Boss will draw it's information from if there is no current CFG file in a temp folder "yet" A template used to download from the SVN servers once supported, we can by pass missing server inputs and place the data for it to find and then Boss will work right.
  • you need to use a version of fomm I know for a fact does work correctly with Fo3.

install that first then contact me for the rest. You have a lot of work to do before hand.

Ok. Progress, I think...

 

So far, I have learned that I am a click-happy moron and downloaded everything and installed it without reading. Left all my trust in LOOT, which it turns out I shouldn't have been using anyway.

 

SO I went back and read the descriptions for Blackened and Paradox Ignition...oh boy did I have some work to do. Still do by the looks of it but here's where I'm at now:

 

This is the first thing I noticed I did wrong. In Blackout's description, it says:

Please note that EVE-related patches can only be used in conjunction with the Unified Paradox version of EVE.
The latest EVE installer will now provide you with this version of EVE.

Note that, as of version 3.3 of this mod, any and all MMM-related can only be used in conjuction the Paradox Ignition merged version of Marts Mutant Mod. Failure to do so will result in your game crashing on startup.

 

I failed on both of these accounts. However, now I have downloaded the latest EVE and the Paradox Ignition version of MMM. I then deactivated and uninstalled the old ones and installed the proper ones in their place. check.

 

Now onto Paradox Ignition:

  • Go to the original mod's page first and install it
  • Remove the esps/esms from your FO3 data folder that were installed from the original mod (not all merges includes optionals so read lower for what the merge replaces)
  • Install a merged mod from this page
  • Tick it in your mod manager

 

I'm not sure what I was smoking when I "installed" this the first time around because I obviously wasn't paying attention. Now, I have gone into the data folder and deleted all the .esp and .esm files that would be replaced by the merged versions of the mods. Then installed all the Paradox Ignition mods and activated them.

 

I edited the FALLOUT.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini according to Enhanced Blood Textures install instructions:

 

-First you need bInvalidateOlderFiles to be 1 which should be active by now if you've been using mods.

Open FALLOUT Config file found in:
...My DocumentsMy gamesFallout3

-After its open find bInvalidateOlderFiles and change the 0 to 1

ex.
bInvalidateOlderFiles=0
to
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1


This will increases the amount and lifetime of blood splatters
-Next, find the following lines:

fDecalLifetime=10.0000
iMaxDecalsPerFrame=50

and change the numbers to (or any number you want the higher the more and longer the blood will last):

fDecalLifetime=9999.0000
iMaxDecalsPerFrame=999

-Now open FalloutPrefs.ini and change:
iMaxDecalsPerFrame=10
to
iMaxDecalsPerFrame=999

 

and also from the main guide I started with:

 

  • Right click this file and open notepad:
    My Documents\my games\Fallout3\FALLOUT.ini
    or C:\users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Fallout3\FALLOUT.ini
  • This may appear as "FALLOUT" in windows explorer.
  • WARNING: DO NOT EDIT Fallout_default.ini !!! You're in the wrong directory!!!
  • find (control F) bUseThreadedAI=0
  • CHANGE to bUseThreadedAI=1
  • Immediately after this line, ADD this new line:
  • iNumHWThreads=2

Those are both done. check.

 

Now, to my knowledge (which is limited to what you guys tell me and what I find through Google), that's all I can do to the list at this point. FOMM doesn't have any flags up, no orange or red anywhere. I suppose the next step is BOSS.

With that sorted, I'll now make another attempt at FO3Edit and see how it reacts to a merged patch. And if THAT works then I can...well...let's not get ahead of ourselves.
! ...FO3Edit loaded all my mods without any issues AND successfully made the merged patch without any problems. Gonna see if the game'll launch now.

Success, well...so far...I'll report back if I run into CTD's or freezes but so far my Fallout game is working perfectly fine. I'm into my new file already and headed for the wasteland.

 

I can't WAIT to try out all these mods.

 

Thank you, guys, for being so quick and helpful. This was all a simple issue that was easily solved by just paying attention and reading (and honestly could have been avoided). Let me know if there is anything else you think I should do to improve my experience.
