But that's what I did the very first time and you told me that wouldn't work! And what you just did above would not work, because if I you do that [as I did], then the book will read something like Z3, rather than the text it's supposed to read. Edited by headbomb

No you misunderstood what I said, and I don't seem to be able to write this up in a manner that is easy to understand.

If I where you I would look here: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/466966-how-edit-esp-file/page__view__findpost__p__3981953

then reproduce each step in that post, checking my files to make sure you are doing the same thing as me (which was why I uploaded them) and see EXACTLY what I was meaning all the time,

anyway hope you figure it out or find someone that are better at communicating and teaching, since I don't seem to be able to do so.

I followed the steps and it works just fine, only problem is you have a ton ton ton of things you cannot access in the skyrim.esm files through the editor because it does not have the right modules.

So as it stands you can only edit so much unless you really wanna deal with hex mostly.

TESsnip is the key, personally I'm using latest official FOMM (TESsnip) and have close to no issues editing anything

there was one sub-record that made it crash last week (can't remember which one now though), but if I remember correct I just moved the sub-record to another position inside the record and that fixed the issue (moving em up or down at times change how TESsnip handles the data).

I'm running Win 7 and run FOMM as Admin.

I guess HEX editing is the only way to get most things done for now. Bummer.

Sure can't... I don't have any recording software, nor is it really necessary.

1)Download FOMM and place it in your \Skyrim\ directory

2)Go ahead and make a new (empty!) .txt file and name it "Fallout.exe" also place that in the \Skyrim\ directory

3)Try to run FOMM

4)When it displays an error message memorize/write down/whatever the file path and file it says it can't find

5)Make a .txt file, name it what FOMM is looking for and place it in the location it's looking in

6)Repeat from step 3 until it works

7)FOMM still crashes with an unhandled exception when trying to open Skyrim.esm (For me, a lot of people are seeing success with this method. I have a feeling it's because I'm on XP x64)

So hey, I realize that this thread is about a month old and the latest reply is 10 days old now, but this still seems like the most useful thread for the topic.

I've tried running Nexus Mod Manager with the "Fallout 3" setting, as well as Fallout Mod Manager, but both of them give me the same problem.

I manage to set it to look at my /skyrim/ folder, then create an empty Fallout3.exe text file, but that's as far as I can get.

The major problem is on step 4 of your brief guide. NMM and FOMM don't actually give me the file and path that they're looking for. All I get is "You have no Fallout 3 INI file. Please run Fallout 3 to initialize the file before isntalling any mods or turning on Archive Invalidation".

I've tried to create a dummy Fallout 3.ini file with several names in my /skyrim/ folder, but nothing has worked. Help! How do I know which dummy files to create if it doesn't tell me what it's looking for?

I still cannot run my FOMM without Fallout game. I tried creating dummy files as suggested (Fallout.exe as a txt file) then tried calling it Fallout 3.exe, as the FOMM is for Fallout 3. It still rill not run, nor give the name of any files that it's searching for.

Is there really no easier, more reasonable way to unpack Skyrim bsa files??? Please help, thanks.
