Non-voiced custom dialogue "speeding through" after prompts

I have dialogue that I created with a super mutant. When the player initiates dialogue with this super mutant, it "speeds through" the text. Not the prompts, for the replies coming from the super mutant. What could be causing this? I have conditions set for both the mutant's AI package and dialogue, if that helps.

 

And while I am here: I have a child companion I wish to make non-essential, making it possible for the child to die. How can I go about doing this? I only want this particular child to be non essential.

I don't understand what you mean by "speeds through". If there is no sound file, each line should stay on the screen for 10 seconds or so. If you want it to stay longer, the only approach may be to include a sound file with a longer period of silence.

 

Children cannot be made non-essential. This is a "socially acceptable" solution mandated by the game engine and modders cannot change it.
