Creation Kit Hangs Up When I Create New Texture Sets

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry if this has already been dealt with elsewhere and if it has perhaps I'm using the wrong words for searching.

I can be considered totally new to modding as the only thing I have done so far is to create a couple of castles with the vanilla assets in Creation Kit and some followers.

Anyhow, in the hope of some help.....

I have created my own player-home castle and I want to place some paintings in that castle.

I have downloaded and installed the excellent "HQ Canvas and Frames" resource.

I have selected the images I want to use as paintings.

Using GIMP 2.8 I have created, named and exported the diffuse map for my named painting....it's called AnnafridPortrait.dds....I have also created and exported the normal map and named it AnnafridPortrait_n.dds

I then placed them both into a folder called "Caras Dawr Castle Paintings" and then placed that folder into my Skyrim "data/textures" directory.

I open the creation kit and go to Miscellaneous/TextureSet and then I open a new TextureSet and name it AnnafridPaintingTexture.

I then highlight the "Diffuse" map and go down and click on "Edit" and set the path to find the dds file at data/textures/CarasDawrPaintings.

I then click on the file named AnnafridPortrait.dds and.....

"Creation Kit has stopped working" and it freezes.

Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong, because I have spent all day trying to find a reference to this issue and I can't.

Many thanks,

Les

Not entirely sure what you're trying to do but the texture filepaths for models are set in the .nif file itself, open the picture frame model in NifSkope and point them at the texture filepath making sure its a valid one, save then when you open the CK drag the object from the object window into the render window and the model together with its textures should show up there and in the game.
