Lets talk about sex....in Skyrim

While we're on the subject. It would be nice this time to see clothing and armor mods for women that aren't based around showing off as much T and A as possible. and maybe having the inevitable highly customized Nude Mods focus more on realism than the last ones which were highly exaggerated proportion wise for both genders.

Back to the main topic. It's probably going to be harder to actually write a sound story for the contextual boning than it will be to script the movements. I can only think of one mod that actually tried to incorporate sex into the game in a believable way (Hint, starts with a C and ends with a T) The way the writer did it made sense in context of fitting into the lore, but the story itself ((no offense to the mod maker)) Was poorly executed in my personal opinion, and seemed to serve more as a delivery system for the sex. Found myself thinking that it would have worked better if he had used the animations in a stand alone manner and allowed them to be used repeatedly. Which would have given the mod more replay value.

So if someone sincerly tries to execute this ideal, they have to keep in mind that story and dialogue need to take the most precedence, otherwise it just comes off as trying to cover up the fact that it's a sex mod with a half baked effort at being artistic. Which makes people on both sides of the equation unsatisfied.

Even the better companion mods tend to fall short when they get to this aspect. The Willow companion for New Vegas was exceptionally well done. But when it comes to sex, she does some weird nude dance for you and then it fades to black. Every time. It would have been better to just have the fade to black.

If I make my companion mod/s for Skyrim like I am planning, then there will be sex, and it will be in context. It is my hope to implement scenes similar to Mass Effect/Dragon Age, which I managed to do in Oblivion, so I should be able to do them in Skyrim. I have no desire to play mods that just throw the two people on the bed and have them do some robotic sex animation for a minute.

The addition of marriage to Skyrim is a step in the right direction to contextual sex and romance. Whilst I feel that Skyrim's implementation is very much a "It's there. You can do it." case I still feel there is room to expand upon it.

For instance, there are a set list of characters that can be married. It would not take a great deal of work to bulk out the stories of these characters. Many of them already have a fairly interesting story. Muiri for me was a very interesting character and, whilst I married her for money, I didn't mind her as a character. Many a time I have wondered why Bethesda did not build on these characters just a tiny bit more (Then I realise there is plenty of other stuff and I go chasing a dragon or something else.)

The problem I've found with romance in any game is that it is not interactive. A friend of mine actually felt that one of the things that made Tali so loved by ME fans is that they can choose to romance her but not sleep with her and I would tend to agree with him. That simple choice altered the perceptions people had of the romance in this case. (I'm sure 'dem hips and 'dat accent also helped make fans love her, however.)

On the flipside of this I also know of lots of people who played Bethesda's previous games with mods that allowed themselves to get raped, removing the choice for anything in the romance side of things. Part of me feels that this highlights a difference that must be made clear in sex and romance. I doubt very much that players felt any romantic interest to the rapist.

In any case I imagine that both types of mod will be implemented into Skyrim to cater to both audiences and this is especially true now that the engine is, I've heard, so much easier to work with.

but add romance or Contextual Sex as you'r word.

it add nothing of value to a computer game, unless it's a adult theme.

but if you add something in adult ether do it right, or not at all.

witcher 2 is a perfect example, of worthless game data.

same go's for Dragon age of worthless data.

you ether watch a porn, or not at all there is no in between

Tali was probably the best romance story I've seen in a game. I started of with Liara in ME1, and when she pretty much ignored me in ME2 (and I spent more time with Tali), the Tali relationship just kinda happened. It really was kinda like a real life relationship that started off as friendship and changed into something else. In ME3 where I'll probably have to choose, it won't even be a choice. Liara's stuff was good... Tali's was amazing.

While I support the idea of more artistic sexual content, I almost feel that the Radiant AI defeats itself here. As stated by a couple other posters, most if not all characters lack a sort of depth. Beyond "Follow me, I need your help," the game is full of unquestioning followers who will travel to hell and back for an opportunity to act as your pack mule. "I helped the Dragonborn save Skyrim and all I got was this lousy iron armor" could be applied to Lydia, Aela, Sven, or any of the.... Is it hundreds? of other followers in the game. There's just not much of an opportunity for romance, except in a few individual instances, which is the gist of what I think was being proposed. You'd have to add all sorts of dialogue and such for it to be anything more than "Like this amulet I'm wearing? Let's get married." When I played Dragon Age 2 earlier this year, I was blown away. I was able to look past what a number of people thought were game-ruining flaws just because I truly cared about every character. It's rare when you have a character like Hawke who you can develop yourself and who also seems real and unique, with in-depth friendships. Of course, there were only a handful of people with whom you were that close, which is what I was getting at above. And when I finally began a relationship, it felt real (by video game standards, of course). I even had a genuine affection for Merrill; on a very basic level, but it was the first time in ages I'd actually appreciated a character. I feel that this same kind of depth would have to be put into a mod to give Skyrim the same kind of meaning, even if we do have better resources at hand.

TL;DR: I think it would be best to just have a couple options with whom you can form a real relationship, rather than utilizing the Radiant AI to seduce a character of your choosing.

I agree. But so far Bethesda has always held the position of prefering to do it their way (large worlds, lots of NPCs, less depth to NPCs). It is one of the two flaws left in the series, in my opinion (apart from the bugs). The first being that every game you start completely again, which removes any attachments you had in the previous game (who else can't wait for ME3 because of the continuing story/characters?). The other being the lack of detailed companions. Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age... even Ultima for those that remember it. The best RPGs have always had companions that make you feel like you have friends in the game. Makes it more real. Strangely enough, the Elder Scrolls continues to be the best RPG out there despite that, but despite its depth, size, mods, quests, etc... I was still looking forward to Mass Effect 3 more than Skyrim.
