nandchan
I would like to, some day, see a level system rework that would grant you access to new perks in each skill separately, so say if you leveled Destruction to 100 you would get a lot of “destruction points” which can only be spent on perks in the Destruction tree, but not on something else, eg. Alteration. Similarly, leveling Alteration would allow you to invest points in Alteration - these points should be completely independent from levelup. The reasoning is that leveling a skill itself is what causes you to master it, just like in Oblivion. I'm not sure whether levelups would affect anything in this mode, perhaps maybe every 3rd level would give you an “extra” perk point that you can spend on any perk. That way, the amounts could be balanced so that maxing out a tree only allows you to max out, say, 2/3 of its perks - and you can use the extra points from levelups to fully max out your main trees. Darksun45230
It's just crazy enough to work.
Lokiron
I'm not necessarily against this, but that would really make it a lot like oblivion.. However, I do feel Perk starved and maybe gaining some extra tree specific perks (3 or 4 maybe) would be nice :-)
Matth85
I wouldn't mind that. I don't know, I feel pretty perk starved these days. I am not a hardcore RPer, so I got no problems doing a "100%" run on one character. But that is not too easy when I am limited with perks. At least 30ish goes into crafting. Bleh. DeMocha
I've played the TES games since morrowind and fallout (if it matters) from 1 to NV. I mention this so you get an idea of what i like. As far as Skyrim goes, for the most part i like the leveling (disregarding the level scaling issues) the perks are a nice addition...... however one of the things i liked in the other TES games was that you could be anything you wanted and were only limited by the time you put into each character. In a world of long-lived elves and dragons and magic..... why should i feel like i can only have a few skills. The idea of gaining perks as you gain skills makes sense, gaining perks for a specific skilltree as you gain those skills makes even more sense. Doesn't mean i believe we should get every single perk, though i wouldn't mind, but being restricted is a PITA. Regardless, when the kit is released i'm sure nexus will be swamped with the traditional body mods.... then the leveling mods. As it is now, i'm using the 'mod'/trainer that was put on nexus allowing for adding additional perk points.
nandchan
The way I personally imagined it was so that the perk tree involves actual decision making, for your non-main skills. For perks which can hold multiple points, this would be a decision between getting 5/5 in the basic perk and progressing up the tree to get something higher up. Points could probably be balanced for each skill independently, in a way so that you would have just barely enough perks to get the useful stuff, but none of the really awesome higher-ups. The rest, if you want them, would have to be filled up with your “general perk points”, which again puts you in a position of choosing between, say, magic/stealth/combat - the exception I see here is for the crafting skills, which would allow you to nearly max them out just by leveling them up to 100. Basically, I don't want to be punished for spending points into the crafting skills but at the same time, I don't want to be overpowered by having every perk in the game. I also like having to limit myself to my character archetype, I don't want to create an omnipotent god character that excels at everything. I thought this was a good compromise. Nymrohd
I was thinking something more specific; you could get 1 skill specific perk for every 10 skill levels gained plus 1 perk every time your character levels used at your own discretion. Would be overkill imo, 10 free perks is a lot per skill, and getting 50 on top of that is just massive. I would reduce the amount of perks gained for leveling.
