Why do PC gamers look past all of the greatness in Skyrim?

I hear so many PC gamers and reviewers who nit pick minor details of Skyrim to complain... Meanwhile, there are so many great things and details within the game. Why are PC gamers so ungrateful? We get a construction kit that will enable us to recreate the game a million different ways, we essentially get complete control over Skyrim.

I have been gaming for a long time... There are a lot of games that don't live up to the hype, but Skyrim has literally amazed me.

Once we have the CK complaints will die down pretty quick, assuming its as flexible a tool as it was in previous iterations.

Skyrim has good points but also a lot of things that aren't as great as a well-modded install of previous titles. Thats the big difference. Console players know nothing but vanilla Oblivion. My Oblivion has 220 mods, a solid third of which are oriented towards visuals, and looks better to my eye than vanilla Skyrim. That's why we're picky; the bar is higher.

I see Skyrim as a break blank canvas to work on. It has the potential to be superior to a lot of games, but seeing the great canvas without having the paint leaves the artist a little frustrated.

People will *censored* about just about anything. There's also this ridiculous sense of entitlement because their hardware can handle things far beyond what consoles have, but the games that are being made are mostly at the console quality. But really, it's people bitching for the sake of bitching so that they can get attention.

I can't wait for the construction set to come out. Right now the majority of mods are retarded... there was my little pony horses... and now there is some troll face meme going on.

I understand about the modded oblivion situation. But Oblivion was released in 2006, thousands of modders have been working on it for five years! I cannot complain about what has been done by Bethesda. They have improved a lot of things over Oblivion...When Oblivion first came out, I didn't even like the game.

not me... the only problem I have is the cycle of alch/ench that is broken... everything else it awesome!!! I have even climbed way up high to watch the valley below as the day and night progressed. (my distances are out to 20-30k for basic stuff, and 100-120k for major stuff... lowered my fps, but meh, it's worth it.)

I already have so many good screen shots that I have to organize them. I've gotten a few friends to play just because of my enthusiasm and those shots... hee hee

Mods spoiled PC Gamers......

Having said that, the non modded version of Skyrim has held my attention the longest. Morrowind bore me and never got a toon past level 10, same with Oblivion.

Spoiled isn't really the right word. Raised the bar sounds more positive and I like it better.

Besides, a truly epic modded install like what I made for Oblivion took me 30 hours of research, learning tools, stability testing, digging on forums, etc to get everything working just perfect. And thats only to get other people's work to work nicely together on my computer. I made a small Vampire mod for Oblivion, 100 hours of work. My point is mostly: mods take a lot of effort, so its not like its handed on a platter like the base game. Mods raise the bar and you have to earn them in a way even if you don't make them yourself (at least if you delve deeply into it). A true labor of love. :) Wouldnt call that spoiling.

Maybe it is because they promised high-res textures for pc and ppl came to think, that the engine will scale better, but if you look under the hood it is basicly almost the same bottlenecks it had under oblivion and that was in 2006. I'd give skyrim 9/10. Edited by Nadimos

Witcher 2? Yah they can spend more time with graphics cause the game was far more linear play. Start here, follow the exact same path with minimal story branches here and there...The end. I finished Witcher 2 in under 20 hours, there was really no point in playing it a 2nd time.
