Multiple distinct Posters with one nif and one diffuse?

Recommended Posts

It seems like it's possible, because I see in the CK that some signs and posters use one dds file with 6 poster images on it, and somehow it can switch between them like a material swap. But on the other hand, all the mods I've seen do either or; All material swaps on one nif, or multiple nifs with swapping on one dds file. I'd really like to use one nif and one diffuse with 6 images on it side by side and have each poster entry in the CK to swap between them.

I wouldn't understand how that works. I mean, I've made UV maps before, but I have no idea how the data works in nifskope or how to manipulate it. But I guess that means it's not possible to use both one nif and one dds file, as the swap takes place in each nif with its unique values, right?

Not sure if Nifskope can manipulate that. I can easily do it in max, specially for a plane (like the posters). I can try and help if you want, with some explanations :)

I'm figuring I'll just use one nif at this point with multiple dds and bgsm files and standard material swaps in the CK. The more I think about it and look at the vanilla assets, what I want to do isn't possible. If the CK itself supported some kind of UV swap, then yeah, but at this point, the changes need to take place in a unique nif or there needs to be multiple bgsm and dds files.

That would be completely possible (by editing the.nifs to have different UV unwraps).

But very labor intensive AND low render quality. Your 'master' image would have to be huge, or the quality is going to suck.

I wouldn't use one image UV'd to only use a portion. Each one should have a dedicated texture, it will look much better that way.

Use one .nif and .bgsm swaps seems the best approach, to me, given time spent, quality, and file size delivered.
