TheRizzler1
I'm having a strange issue where on certain parts of my mesh, the tris/polys display as completely black; The second image is after I had rebuilt the mesh on the end of the scope entirely making sure to do it fast and clean - but the problem polygons have actually gotten worse. I had an issue like this before, but that was fixed due to welding some floating verts, while I can't see any problem with the mesh in this case. Anyone have any idea what's going on? TheRizzler1
Alright, I've made a little progress. I think the problem is related to smoothing groups (hard/soft edges for you Maya fans). I removed all smoothing from the scope end and this is the result;A lot less black faces, but as the normal map is out of sync the shading looks terrible. Problem now is that I know how to get a good bake, but if I do it that way it's going to cause these face issues. Any thoughts?
covadonga
In nifskope, right click on your mesh , click on mesh, then face normals, right click again on the mesh, select mesh again an then click on update tangent space, that sould work
TheRizzler1
You're a hero! No sight of any black faces. Didn't think the problem might be in the nifskope stage. Maybe my 3ds max FBX export plugin isn't working correctly...Ignore the obvious UV seam, fixing it now. I rushed when I rebuilt the mesh. There's still what looks like some slightly odd shading going on in other parts of the mesh as well. Guess I'll take a look at the exporter and what it puts out
