Ebony Ingots.

This game suffers from a lack of Ebony ingots.

Specially considering blacksmithing is not very hard to raise, making it conceivable to achive 100 Blacksmithing before u reach lvl 10.

At which point Ebony ingots are not for sale anywhere, ull be lucky if u see dwarven ingots tbh, but then again getting dwarven ingots becomes a lot easier once u find one of their dungeons.

So the biggest open source of Ebony ingots is the Gloombound Mine, mining it completly dry leaves u about enough Ebony for a full, upgraded set of Ebony armor and ebony weapons, with maybe 1 or 2 to spare.

But now ur out of Ingots, and THEY DO NOT RESPAWN to my knowledge.

So then u get ur Deadric perk and discover that this one requires Ebony as well (dont get me startet on the Daedra hearts).

There is a rumor that ull find more in the mine at Shor's Stone, but id like to see some pictographical evidence of that, as ive ran that mine up and down without discovering anything.

Someones says there is one ore location at the top of the Throat of the World, but u need to advance the main quest to gain access, and even then its only 3 ores in total.

Hardly enough Ebony to equip urself and ur compaion with a full set of upraded Daedric armor and weapons, never mind being an enchanter and wanting several choices of weapons or even armor.

Not to mention the amount of mods out there with custom companions, or that allow u to have more then one companion at a time.

So where to get it?

Well what i discovered was curious, Blacksmiths never seem to have them, BUT after passing lvl 20 they seem to pop up more and more in General goods stores.

Circling Whiterun, Solitude, Winterhold, Windhelm and a few others nets 1 or 2 ebony ingots each on average.

U will have to be over lvl 20 though, just thought id share that.

I was having the same issue you were (lack of availability). I crossed over level 30 this past weekend and suddenly they are popping up as commonly as Oricalcum (7-9 ingots per blacksmith) and the other "medium" ingots were. My guess is level 30 is some kind of trigger. They definitely were NOT available before..and if they were it was 1-2 ingots MAX.

Go to Gloombound Mine. It's south/southeast of Whiterun, and I got 59 pieces of ebony ore. It's in the mountains, and you'll know you're there when you come across an Orc settlement. You melt it down to Ingots in Whiterun and you'll have enough for a complete armor set, a sword, a shield and be able to upgrade all of it.

The OP already mentions Gloombound Mine and btw, it's southeast of Windhelm, not Whiterun.

The ore veins to respawn/refill. It just takes some amount of game days, I'm not sure how much. I've done two full mining trips in that mine so far.

It's probably the same 30 days that it takes for dungeons to reset... maybe..

As far as I know, they respawn after 30 days.

By the way, who maes Ebony armor? 10 levels of smithing is nothing, and you get Dadreic for a small price of 6k gold extra (hearts).

funny, my level 45 character isn't having that problem. Most blacksmiths in the game have at least a few ebony ingots for sale, I suppose you just have to wait a while for this stuff to get into economic circulation.

and at the higher levels Deadra hearts are a little easier to come by.

There are places to mine ebony at the top of the throat of the world, where you meet. . . Parthuurnax, by the notched pickaxe. There's no trail, so you have to jump/slide/ and almost glitch your way up, as far as I know.
