Hi i got a question to pose tp you, im currently running an ATI HD2600 pro graphics card, 2.6ghz processor and 1gb of RAM and i get small jumps now and then when im outside with distance land/buildings/trees on, if i was to upgrade to 1.5-2 gb of RAM would this make it run smoother?

Thanks

Easiest solution is use a mod called Streamline,

but you may want to wait a couple of days, as it is pending an upgrade/update due to come out shortly.

There is a thread on the official forums here, so you can read about what the mod does:

As Buddah said, Streamline is your best bet.

In those far-off days before I began using Streamline, which I will refer to as BSL, my game ran like butt.

After Streamline, even with a good amount of mods, my fps has increased to the point that I can actually play the game without resorting to a clever array of swear-words!

For whatever its worth Streamline is cheaper but in order to get fancy in the Construction Set you will need 2GB of Ram. So if you plan on modding buy the ram.

I run them both (Streamline and 2GB) but I find I must use Streamline on a very low setting.

You know, all you guys are forgetting about one crucial bottleneck - the CPU's clock speed. While using software to increase FPS may be easier, having a hardware upgrade would be better. AMD's CPU's are in fact a little better than Intel's (not to mention cheaper), so maybe an Athlon 64 X2 CPU would be better (preferably one with over 3.0GHz clock speed).

I'm gonna have to call you on that one. Nothing AMD has out right now can touch a Core 2 proc. We'll see how this new Phenom stacks up, but with Penryn starting to hit the market, I'm afraid AMD may have to come up with something better. There are plenty of head-to-head comparisons to indisputably prove that Intel is top dog right now. AMD used to be the honcho for a while with the Athlon 64 and their onboard memory controller. But then Core 2 hit the market.

Dude, the Amd 64 X2 is a dual core processor and I'll tell you from experience on this one as I own both an AMD 64 Athlon X2 3800+ 2.01 Ghrtz w/400mhrtz front side and an Intel Pentium4 2.8 Ghrtz w/MMX and 800 front side. The AMD seriously out performs the Pentium when it comes to memory/hardfault management and thread processing.

You misread my post, bro. I know the X2 is dual core. I never said it wasn't. I said AMD's current processors cannot out-perform Intel's line of Core 2 processor's. That includes Core2 Duo/Quad's/Extreme (for sure the Extreme line). And that statement isn't opinion. It's fact backed up by cold hard data. Now, I went on to say that AMD USED to hold the performance crown back when, as you stated in your reply, the Pentiums were current. Absolutely, an Athlon 64 can outperform a Pentium (laregly due to AMD's choice to integrate the memory controller on-die, so it runs at proc core speed, not FSB speed). Again, data proves that. And now Intel is launching their Penryn line of CPU's, which, I predict, will just add a one-two punch to AMD and continue to smother them.

what I'm saying is that AMD has the better processor at the lower end where the majority of our community can afford to make a purchase.

I agree if you mean old when you say "lower" end of the spectrum. Any single core proc is ancient by hardware standards.

No worries, dude. And yeah, you don't need the best money can buy to run Oblivion - at all. You just need to know how to tweak it and what mods to run.
