xlr8films
When you fast travel and you own a horse (and I have Shadowmere atm) do you have to actually mount the steed to get somewhere faster, or is it just implied because you own the horse? Or do you even get where you're going any faster at all?
Beriallord
Are you telling me you played though the game far enough to get shadowmere, without doing fast travel to a location via the map?
xlr8films
No, I've had other horses and fast travelled with and without them. My question is, does *OWNING* a horse cause you to travel quicker? Do you have to mount it first, then select destination? Or is travel just 'normal' regardless of owning a steed? In Oblivion this was the case, but here in Skyrim the only unique horse I've seen (so far) is Shadowmere. It used to be that if you got the black horse from Cheydinhal, you would fast-travel quicker between points. This is important to me bc I'm a vamp. Which is why I'm asking..... OnTI don't know personally if it's faster with or without a horse, but it should be really easy to test it out.1. Travel to Riften, there save your game.2. Press T and check what time it is, and write it down.3. Fast Travel to Markarth, press T and check what time it is and write that down.4. Reload the Riften save and kill your horse, then check the time and write it down.5. Travel to Markarth and check the time, and compare the results.6. Knowledge is power. Yes, experiment is what I wanted to suggest and you suggested it first, but you also didn't understand what xlr8films is asking in the first place. He's asking whether there is difference between starting fast travel while riding a horse and starting fast travel while owning a horse, but not riding it. But your method is right. Who wants to know the answer should compare the results on practice.
soot00
Whether you are mounted or not, once you fast travel the horse willl be at your side
Patronus
Well, I'll be the first one to post a really useful answer here :)There is no difference, I checked it.I'm starting fast travel dismounted from Riften to Windhelm, leave at 11:28, arrive at 8:47;I'm starting fast travel mounted on the same route, leave at 11:29 (a minute wasted to mount), arrive at 8:48.As you can see, It's not necessary to mount if you own a horse. The only difference is, if you are overencumbered, you can't fast travel if you're not riding a horse. But once you mount, you can fast travel even overencumbered. xlr8films
Yeah I'm having to pull 12-hr shifts this week (until tmr) and I'm usually too pooped to do anything when I get home. This forum is one of my much-needed escapes from the grind, while I'm here. But yeah thanks Patronus!!! Do you have Shadowmere also or just a reg horsie? Do you have Shadowmere also or just a reg horsie?A regular black horse I bought in the Whiterun. See, I'm playing a good-guy, so there's no getting Shadowmere for me. But what is more disappointing for the good guy - not being able to marry Muiri. She's the prettiest girl in the game, too bad she's in the Dark Brotherhood. By the way, does anyone know, what happens to my horse if I buy another one? can I make my follower mount it? Because I tried to make Lydia mount my horse and I couldn't - she thought I wanted her to attack the horse.
Marcvss
By the way, does anyone know, what happens to my horse if I buy another one? .Well thats a good one. I atm own "Frost" and have "Shadowmere" aswell. When I fast travel, both horses travel along it seems.
