AsmodesReynolds
This may be a stupid question, however, I need the answer anyway. So here I go… I do not have hearth fire DLC, and I’m not willing to buy it, because it’s stupid and useless…. But a lot of mods these days need the unofficial legendary patch, and usleep. Will the usleep still work properly without hearth fire and it’s unofficial patch? Do I have to use older versions of the mods, that don’t require the ULP? Or Can I just use TESVedit added the masters to depend is manually to the unofficial patches that I require?
FrankFamily
Usleep requires hearthfire and yes, you'll have to use non-usleep versions.

You might reconsider: The owners of all DLC will get the new edition of Skyrim for free - the one that's supposed to come out in November.
kevkiev
I went back to Skyrim a few months back after over a year off and was wondering the exact same thing (same feelings here about HF). I just updated my USKP to the latest version and, although there's a few more fixes in USLEEP, it's working fine. All my old mods still work (of course, I updated some of them) - dunno if I was just lucky that none of them require USLEEP but, anyways... There's a handful of mods I wouldn't mind trying that require HF and/or USLEEP (Legend of the Dragonborn, I think it's called, for one example), but just a handful and none I can't live without. Personally, although the upcoming remaster is free for owners of all DLCs, I'm in absolutely no hurry to jump on that bandwagon until I see a good deal of feedback on how it actually works (betcha it doesn't fix half the bugs that even the latest USKP fixes - maybe even introduces new ones?) and to give mod authors ample time to update their mods to handle the new game. twiztedmongoloid
On kinguin.net you can buy the legendary version of skyrim for 17 dollars......... really no excuse not to have all DLC. I agree hearthfire is nothing special but all DLC are required by many mods now because its assumed the vast majority of users own all DLC. Games been out over 5 years. Well, I really haven't found that many, and I've added a lot of mods since I started playing again. (I know, I know - USLEEP... maybe in a while the extra fixes it has over the most recent USKP will change my mind. Not currently though.) Unless a mod uses HF assets, there's no reason for the author to set it as a master. Assumptions notwithstanding. And I always thought having no interest in HF's content was a pretty good excuse not to buy it. In the end though, up to you. I'd take a look around Nexus at the various mods that catch your fancy, and see if (m)any of them need HF or USLEEP, then decide.
