TrickyVein
Since collision has yet to be decoded in newer versions of NifSkope and may never be, and the tools for exporting proper (complex, beyond convex shape) collision are locked behind exclusive versions of 3ds Max, myself and probably many others are still using the tried and true method of copying and pasting collision from other .nifs into theirs. So I have a question for other users here: is there anything different between how collision is configured for miscellaneous objects vs. that for weapons? I have some weapons with unique shapes and am having a difficult time finding an existing weapon in the game that closely matches the shape of mine and from which I can grab collision. I would like to branch out and attempt to use collision from miscellaneous objects which also have physics and can be kicked around in the world like weapons can, but I wonder if anyone else has tried this and run into issues. steve40
I experimented making some items with Havok physics. I got it working with randomly selected items, I didn't put any thought into whether they might have a special collision layer set in the collision mesh. It seems to matter more what nodes you use to attach the collision meshes to. For example, I attached a meat hook to a cooking stove and attached a slab of meat to it. I can hit the meat with an objects and it will swing on the hook. Alternatively, I placed a dead cat on another meat hook and made it swing constantly using gamebryo animation, but it seems that you can't have animation AND havok physics on the same objects simultaneously. I've also seen stuff in some of the nifs in the CK that look like they are meant to use skinned bones to produce physics effects...the hobby horse and swings in the playgrounds, and there is a hangman's noose asset hidden in the CK, with skinned bones.
