damanding
I'm working on a custom cooking station as already discussed in this thread https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/4712450-creating-custom-cooking-station-help-needed/. I've followed Elianora's custom mesh creation tutorial to make my mesh in Outfit Studio (Body Slide) by dragging/dropping the meshes I wanted and positioning them the way I wanted in that tool. Export as nif and then using Nifskope I edit the bounding sphere information as per her tutorial also. I've already made five versions basically, the first three worked fine, the last two crash the CK when I try to swap the mesh model on the furniture item I'm using. Using some google-fu, I found the following thread: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/4149420-mesh-importing-help-the-creation-kit-crashes-when-i-import-my-weapon-meshes-i-need-help/ and tried to apply the advice appropriately. I used DarthWayne's advice about the Sanitize options and also looked at the Extra Data List. I'm pasting a screenshot of my info below. If you need alternative screenshots showing other information please let me know.
damanding
Also to get really technical in case it matters, what actually happens is that when I try to swap the furniture mesh to mine it is crashing my display driver which locks up the CK. Nvidia GT 720 (yeah I know it sucks) driver version 10.18.13.6839 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine.
evanpox
I can't see anything wrong at first glance, but then I never can when this happens to me either :P In my experience, it's usually that I've accidentally pasted extra data across with my BSTriShapes/BSMeshLODTriShapes, such as calling a reference that no longer exists within the new mesh. Sometimes you can open up all the little [+] under the NiNode and spot it instantly, and sometimes you can't. I'm doing one right now where I couldn't find the problem, so what I've done is created a whole new one consisting of just one object. Created a static in CK and gave it that mesh. Okay cool, no crashes. Added one more item to the new mesh and refreshed it in CK. No crashes, rinse repeat. And you know what happened? I just added the last f-ing piece and it didn't crash CK. So I have no idea what happened, I think CK is just a whiner.
damanding
I literally drag the mesh file I want from a file browser into Outfit Studio to position them so whatever data comes along for the drag and drop ride is what it ends up with. The only data I touch at all is the bounding sphere information.
cartman1975
I often had similar problems. Most of the time it had to do with the collision. Especially when arranging items with outfitstudio. To prove that, try to delete all collision branches, sanitize, save and try again to import the objects with the ck. If you want to keep the collision of all items, try to arrange the items only within nifscope. That's how i assembled the large shelves in my mod and was able to keep the collision. damanding
As I'm so new at this it's painful (I used Nifskope and Outfit Studio for the first time just a few days ago), I looked for tutorials on combining meshes in Nifskope directly to skip the Outfit Studio portion. Looks like they're all pretty old. This one is for an older version and related to Skyrim, but would you say it's generally still relevant? http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/tutorials/article/98-static-mashups-in-nifskope/
damanding
I narrowed down which part is causing me issues. Evanpox kindly recreated the whole thing from scratch using just Nifskope, even his file crashed my CK. I recreated it without the cinderblock, worked fine. Apparently my CK just positively HATES CinderblockSingle01 no matter who creates the file, how many times it's recreated from scratch or even what program was used to create the mashup. I'm totally scratching my head on that one.
dinozaurz
Not sure if it's still relevant, (as this post is fairly old) but did you try to right click the cinderblock -> block -> convert -> BSTriShape? That sometimes does the trick for me when CK mysteriously crashes :P
damanding
Yay it's one of my modding heros Dinozaurz! :D I saw that tip somewhere else after I'd already given up on the cinderblock and used a sandbag instead. I should revisit that file and see if that fixes it. :)
