Anyone else adore the UI?

Most of the peeps who hate it are probably using a 2 button standard mouse and basic keyboard. With my N52 TE gamepad I get 10 extra hotkey buttons just for my thumb. UI is great with the proper hardware setup.

Only change in the UI that's needed is a buff timer bar to show on the main window, only thing I would change.

So we should dish out extra dollars on extra hardware to make a half assed port better? That's not the solution.

A serious PC gamer does not play with a basic 2 button mouse and 5 dollar keyboard. I mean if you gonna spend 200++ bucks on a video card to max the Skyrim graphics out you selling yourself short by going with cheap input devices

I am using a Logitech board that cost me 85EUR(prob over 100 dollars) and a ROCCAT KOVA mouse-never let me down on other(more technically achieved) games/interfaces.

The interface has all the listed issues, even on top input hardware, because it was designed for use on a gamepad/360/ps3 controller. Gamer reviews and pro critics have commented on the UI for these reasons.

It has got some serious problems and it is not a question of a 5 dollar mouse over a Naga you will still see the same problems being reported by the majority of players when it comes to cheap ports.

Also if you are a player on PC you just have to flip the box to see no kind of serious rig is needed for this game.

LOL

Now I would like to read the views of any of the UI advocates when they try to remap the key assignments to suit a left handed player (mouse in left hand), particularly the tab key which is hard coded at the moment.

Y'know, its wrong for hardcore gamers to whine and say the game doesn't pander to them, but being left-handed makes you special?

I kid ;P hardcoding tab(and several other keys) is just poor coding. Doesn't mean the UI is bad. Means they messed up some coding(which conveniently doesn't affect the large majority of people playing the game). Not to be callous, but...yeah. You do happen to be a minority.

Here's a summary of all the issues with the UI

*You can't rebind controls without wanting to shoot yourself. Try using "E" for jump instead of the spacebar and "Q" for favourite instead of F, etc...

*Hotkeys are limited to 12345678, rather than the usual 1234567890-=

*You can't hotkey stuff on your left hand

*You can't hotkey pairs of items

*Hotkeys should be assignable directly from the menus. Right now you have to Open Inventory>Browse to Item>Press Favourite Key>Exit Inventory Menu>Go to Favourires Menu>Assign Hotkey. This should not be more complicated than "Open Inventory>Browse to Item>Assign Hotkey"

*You should be able to un-assign favourites from the favourites menu. Right now, if I want to un-assign say “Flames”, to go in Magic>Destruction>Flames>Unassign. This should just be Favourite>Flames>Unassign

*Horrible, horrible use of screenspace. You have a list of 9 items and you need to scroll to see the end of it. See this link for the long version.

*Mouse support is horrible

*In the perk tree, moving up, then down (or left, then right), doesn’t return you at the same perk most of the time.

*Unable to view entire perk tree in one glance

*Unable to get quick overview of your skill progression.

*Left-clicking on the map should be a “grab map” command, so you can move it left/right/up/down with your mouse. Right-clicking should be for adding markers. Double-left-clicking on a known-location should be for fast travel.

*You can't access other menus within a menu. Why must I exit the inventory before checking out my spells? Why can't I go from Inventory to Map directly?

*Can't access local map directly. First need to access map, then go to local map.

*If I accessed the local map the last time I checked the map, the next time I checked the map, the local map will still be there. If M is map, and L is local map, I don't want to see the local map when I press M.

*Can't see encumbrance when buying/selling items

*Can't easily compare merchant inventory with my own inventory. Put them side by side, not one on top of the either. Likewise with containers

*If I do a "take all" in a container containing one item, the item is taken, and the contained closed. However, if I do a "take all", nothing happens, and the container is not closed. This asymmetrical behaviour makes no sense.

*Can't have a quick overview of item quality, weight, prices, etc...

*Items are only sortable by name, not weight, damage, etc...

And so on, and so forth.

Most all your issues resolved with the purchase of this item. It's 75 bucks online now but look for Black Friday deals. I purchased mine last Black Friday online for 40 bucks including shipping. With your present setup (assuming you a right hand mouse user), what does your left hand thumb do? Complete waste of a body part right? Wtih this amazing item your one thumb which basically did nothing on a standard keyboard has the ability to create not 1, not 2, not 3, but up to 10 hotkeys just for that single thumb!

It's a PC gamer must have item....

After the first patch, it seems pretty solid to me except for two things. Hotkeys when dealing with both hands and sorting huge item lists. If these were addressed, I think I could easily put aside the rest of the issues as pretty minor.

Nobody needs to mark every little thing as being a major f-up.. I think it's just a small handful of things that make it frustrating.

If the UI requires as 75$ specialty item to be used without wanting to blow your brains out, you've pretty much admitted that your UI was a horrible piece of crap. And honestly, having that thing wouldn't solve 10% of the problems.

I own one of these, lol. It is not gonna solve anybodies problems at all. Also you posting this proves that you too have had issues with a UI that you are defending. I mean why should someone pay for a peripheral that cost 50EUR for somthing that is the developers lazy ass fault? Do you have any logical and rational explanation?

I don't really know what else to say beyond you defense seeming awfully fanboyish.

I lean towards the 2 button mouse and $5 keyboard side of the equation, and I still think the UI is fine...

I agree hardware has nothing to do with it, but I can't agree that the UI is fine. The majority of games(me amongst them) are having troubles with it so we can't all be wrong. It is optimized for a console controller meaning anyone using K&M will not be getting the UI experience Beth set out to create.
