saldu
First of all, you need the old .exe. I'm not allowed to provide that, ask google for it. It's 18.2mb. Disable automatic updates in steam, I don't even know if that works properly, but can't do anything bad.To do so, rightclick Skyrim in your library and go to properties -> updates, rest should be clear.Close steam. Now, keep your backup of the old .exe, copy it, rename it to TESV.exe and place it where it belongs. Enable LAA if not done so already, there are enough tools to do so.Make the .exe read-only, so steam can't touch it. (you need to remove that if there ever comes a patch that you want to have)Start the game by using the SkyrimLauncher.exe, this should automatically start steam and allow you to start the game as usual, with steam overlay and achievements enabled, and with the old LAA aware .exe. CNash
This helps, but is there any way to bypass steam entirely like we could do before this patch? Doesn't make sense to only have steam for one single-player game.
saldu
Well, this was sorta meant for people who want steam, but also want a LAA exe, for the steam overlay and achievements and screenshots. If you never used steam, you shouldn't have gotten to the update trouble anyways. You should still be fine starting your TESV.exe if you still have the prepatch 18.2mb exe.
CNash
Well, i don't have it. I've never used steam at all before this game, and i had no idea that it auto updated. (Why in god's name that is on by default is beyond me)So does this mean i have to download one illegally?
JesterKing
I have a simple question. If you would be so kind to answer it, but How do you play skyrim with steam turned off? I do indeed have the old exe for skyrim, and I'm in offline mode, but is there something in the settings of steam I can change? I don't want to start steam every time I want to play Skyrim. The only reason I'm asking is I've heard it's possible. I figured it would be a pain to unplug my network cable every time I want to play. Sorry, guys, its probably an easy fix but im new to steam. Thanks in advance. EDIT: It seems offline mode IS the way to play without steam as I just unplugged my network cable and it still said "Connecting (My account)" even though I'm offline. I feel foolish. :) I figured it wouldn't say loading steam at all if I was offline. My fault Edited November 23, 2011 by JesterKing

My fault If you have the old .exe, you should be able to start skyrim by running that .exe, completely evading even offline mode in steam. That's what they did the update for, so that you could no longer bypass steam like that.
