I never liked the Jack of all trades playstyle one can attain in TES series as I felt it becomes a self suffiicient EZ Mode. Absolutely no challenge to pull with Fireballs, Tank with Plate and finish a mob off with a 2hand sword....but to each their own.

Per Skyrim I rotate between a pure mage, pure thief and pure warrior and they stay strict with what perks guild houses they are able to attain to keep the game semi difficult.

Mage: No weapons, he runs out of mana means he either is able to run and escape or dies. Enchanting skill, college of magic guild only. Clothe only etc.

Thief: Daggers and Archery only. Alchemy only, limited to dark brotherhoold and thieves guild and light armor

Warrior: Smith, Imperial Army, stays away from colleges and guilds like Dark brotherhood and Thieves guild that don't suit the character.

Sounds like you should just play a different series if you're all about limiting yourself in the extreme. Bump the difficulty all the way up and I doubt you'll feel OP. I do make archtypes but I break the mold.

Rogue: illusion, dual-wield, archery, sneak, light armor, alchemy, smithing.

Warrior: restoration, alteration, 2-handed, heavy armor, smithing, block, enchanting.

My mage is practically a cookie cutter tho. Just throw in some sneak and light or heavy armor in late game.

Pure builds are really limited in their abilities and it's just not very interesting to play in comparison.

I love the fact that I'm not limited to the locked down roles you're stuck with in online games due to "Balance" so my character is a mix of things that aren't usually allowed together on one character.

Sword / Shield / Bow

Heavy armor

Stealth (sneak attack from a distance with a bow is awesome before taking the rest head on)

lock picking

armor crafting

with a light touch of self healing

I guess I'd consider myself a 'Rogue Warrior'..maybe. I rely on archery, and single hand. I am now trying the duel wielding, but not having a lot of luck at it, but I do like the style. I travel light, usually no armor (for the most part) and rely on stealth when I can. I'd like to play as an Elf...but...well, anyway, playing as an Imperial. Having a great time with my dumpster warrior.

good poll by the way.

I like to play soldiers; by that, I mean smart "warriors" who use the best tool for the task and take out the enemies quickly and efficiently, usually without being spotted. This means high Sneak and Archery, with decent investment in Lockpicking, Illusion and One-Handed and some ranks in Light Armor (though not a lot).

This, unfortunately, brings me to one of my main gripes for Skyrim: no backdoors. By that, I mean, for most buildings, there isn't a back way into the structure, making Stealth really more like just another way of fighting enemies, rather than an alternative method of getting into and out of a place without being noticed.

First character i went with 1h magic place maniac, was way 2 easy.

This time around i am on master difficulty without blacksmith and enchantments stealth or magic,

orc character with 1h(mace) shield and plate and loving it so far, much more difficult, and rly handy to block off magic with shield with perk. Had to pick som archery cus the dragons wouldn't come down otherwise xD. ONly companion is the war dog unless quests need one.

Nord battle mage, although destruction appears to be nerfed this time around. I do more ranged damage with Archery 51 ebony bow/arrow than I do with Destruction 91 fireball spell much to my dismay.
