Shantih Posted November 24, 2011 Share Posted November 24, 2011 I'm not referring to the weird female Scottish accent that comes up sometimes with some Nords, I'm posting about two other examples that I've found rather strange: The first one has to do with the voice actor who imitates Arnold Schwarzenegger's Conan and gives Nords a cool voice. There is a character in Windhelm who is called the captain and who speaks about Candlehearth and what struck me is that the second part of the name wasn't pronounced like the word "hearth" (synonym for fireplace) in words like "hearthrug" or "hearthstone" in fact the vowel sounded more like "dearth" so I'd like to know if I'm the only one who heard that. The other thing that struck me was the way Viarmo's sidekick (I can't remember his name at the moment) in the bard's college in Solitude said Dead Men's Respite without a diphthong on the last syllable so it rhymes with "pit" instead of "spite" I'm starting to wonder whether a) I've been hallucinating or b) some voice actors make up pronunciations as they go along. I'm not trying to diss the game -I love it- but frankly I can't really make heads or tails of that so instead of sitting here alone in the dark, confused and bewildered, starting to question the nature of the universe and the meaning of life I thought I would post and ask fellow Skyrim players what they thought. Thanks for clearing the "respite" thing for me, there is indeed a diphthong in British English but no diphthong in American English. Funny how an American accent can confuse me in a medieval setting.
