Face and Body color Mismatch

Further, they may not have created new normal maps for the new texture and that could change the hue as well.

I don't have too much experience with normal maps, but from my knowledge I don't think this would be the case, considering what normal maps actually do and how they work. A normal map is very similar to a bump map, except it uses RGB values (instead of Greyscale) to represent the 'depth' when rendering the texture. As all that normal maps do—like bump maps—is alter the render depth, they shouldn't have an affect on the hue.

That being said, if a texture is drastically changed (particularly regarding detail) and the normal map isn't, there is a chance the depth detail will be out of place and not match the new texture. So, indeed, things may look wrong, just not likely (or even possibly) the hue.

If I'm wrong, I welcome someone to correct me :)

LOL..and at this point I know just enough to be dangerous...and I admit it. I only mentioned this because it was an issue I had with my mod for DA2. The normal map was somehow affecting the 'shine' and the hue. I know there was a specular map used, but could not get that issue figured out for some time. In this game (Skyrim)..I have no clue how the maps are being used and such, I haven't had the time to extract and explore yet.

But more to the point, the normal maps I generated for my mod changed the 'depth' on some areas, and this (working with the specular map in the game..I did not generate my own) changed the shine and hue. I'm just throwing this out there, but this did happen to me at that time. I know have a better understanding of 'maps'....well, I think I do anyway.

hi, i got the same problem.

npc heads started to "gray out" - its very noticable. removing all facetexture mods didnt help...

i just fixed it. seems it was some modconflict or something. i disabled mod by mod to find out what is causing the problem.

after disabling extended eye color selction and alcohol drunk effect, the facecolors reverted back to normal.

lucky me...

I tried that John1231

didn't have anything regarding alcohol but i did have a mod which added extra eye colours. I disabled it, removed the textures from file, restarted, went to showracemenu and fiddled with player weight, sliding it up and down a couple of times. Restarted the game and lo no more horrible greyed out face.

Very relieved as I liked my face texture mods and hair etc - but can live quite happily with the vanilla eyes.

test this with the default face from skyrim.esm

after the initial load with the new facegendata you can delete the *.dds and *.nif files, wich you extracted from the default skyrim.esm.

or leave the files at there folder and simple override them, with a export from a new mod.

yeah seems the problem got something to do with eye mods. (i guess)

@sbire:

its some terrible mod conflict where all people get "grey" faces - like redguards have a redguard body but the faceskin color looks grey like a vampires.

this "bug" is really annoying, you cant look at people anymore ,)

happily i fixed it for me - and gentester seems to have had the same problem.

i wonder if you used the same eye mod as me gentester? (maybe its a problem with the mod itself?)

edit:

ok it was 100% expended eye color selection - seems there was a bug with the mod. the author already fixed the problem, so i can update the mod and use the greate eye selection again.

@ john1231

he he ; a workaround to fix it are existing only for existing npc from skyrim.esm.

i've tried this with shawn from dovakhin hideout, doesnt work. he isn't a default npc from bethesda.

there is a known bug, the client doesn't export the facegendate from .esp, so you have to do this manually.

i dont want see ugly face, too. but sometimes i have to leave my home to buy something...... must eat ......

.....okay ingame i have the option with the ctrl+f4 workaround .....indeed

I'm having a similar problem.

Although I export the FaceGen data, the body remains different from the head. In the Creation Kit, it previews just fine.

I did have Ethereal Elven Overhaul installed, but I deleted it all.

It shouldn't still be having an effect, right? Unless there's some texture directory I didn't delete...

Any tips?
