Skyrim item levelling a bit too conservative?

I certainly understand why Bethesda did this, they don't want player to stumble upon super powerful weapons or items at low level that makes the game too easy for them. But it seems to go a bit too far. I just completed a quest about a "Red Eagle", supposedly a legendary figure, had a book written about him and all, and the reward item was a Honed Nord Sword of Burning that was pretty wicked looking but had a completely lame stat, a full 10 damage less than my current sword, the Skyforge steel greatsword that I enchanted myself with low-level burning effect. I got my sword through completely legitimate means (not cheating) and has had it for a long time. You'll get the skyforge sword (or other weapon of your choosing) when you get accepted into Companion, which you could do as a low-level character. I am thoroughly dissapointed! Why bother going through dungeons battling undead and such, only to get a sword worse than the sword you could get pretty soon after starting up (which would indicate a pretty low-level sword).

I think what it comes down to is Bethsoft wanting to refrain from making 4-5 versions of an item scaled with the player like they had in Oblivion. Not only is this more work, but leads to issues where people would just put off quests until they hit the last level range so that the version they got wasn't utter crap after a few levels.

The downside however is that they don't want the player to have access to generally superior items at low levels, so end up nerfing them to where they end up being pretty useless anyway.

Hopefully mods sort this out a bit better and answer by putting more weighting on player skills, or use methods of soft-leveling quest rewards. The fact of the matter is that you can get almost any weapon early on either by making it, getting it from one of the more difficult tombs, or as a perk from being in a certain faction, so equipment leveling is technically null and void.

Still not as bad as some of the rewards for certain quests. Was given a normal hide shield for helping liberate Falkreath at around level 50. Wasn't even enchanted.

Then there's the Galidor's amulet group of quests which results in an amulet that boosts health, stamina, and magicka 30 points. The three bosses are all fairly strong, especially in the end encounter which would be far beyond the ability of any character which was not atleast 30 or 40... With the result being a fairly crummy amulet and no unique powers for wearing it.

There is simply no item leveling with quest rewards, and that is part of the problem. I think that if someone manages to survive a tough encounter, they should atleast get the perks of a stronger piece of equipment than what is normally available to them.

While I am happy theres no uber powerful weapons available at low level, I agree quest rewards should be addressed in the future.

My character is now Level 20 but for a long time at least till level 16 I used nothing but a Blades Sword that I had enhanced slightly at a forge and the so-called rewards I got were weapons of far inferior damage potential than what I had equipped. Although loot seems to be improving now at my current level.

Of couse then you have other potential items that are quite easy to aquire such as the Mace of Molag Bal, much that I enjoy the game it seems seriously unbalanced at times.

Really? Then I'm not looking in the right places! :(

I still got just a regular great iron sword or something like that. And I was really proud of myself when I made it into a fine or superior ( I forget which) sword. Hmmm. Maybe I already have it in my inventory and don't even realize it. I'm going to check.

Hmmm maybe have a look at this? http://skyrim.nexusm...ile.php?id=7590 Maybe it isn't exactly what you are looking for and maybe it will help. Regards D13

What? http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Leveled_Items

Everything is leveled. Chest loot is leveled, gold rewards are leveled, gold in the loot is leveled, every encounter is leveled, every dungeon is leveled, everything has a leveled list. From unque items to the 10 gold pieces that you found in a sack in some random dungeon.

The catch for leveled quest rewards is that, at the level that you accept the quest, thats the one that it will be used as reference for giving you the reward. You accept Mjoll's quest for Chillren at level 10, the first time you get to riften, well, if you finished it at level 30, you'll get the level 10 weapon EDIT: though now that i think of it, im not so sure now if you recieve the reward according at your level when you got the quest, or when you finished. Maybe i assumed it was when you recieve the quest since for every playthrough after the first one, i always evade quests that rewards items that i like until im lvl 30 or so, i'll have to test it sometime.

Thats why i like the Dragon Priest masks so much, they're powerful, and they're not leveled. The Daedric artifacts arent leveled, but they're pretty bad (for me at least).

Actually, Headbomb's Complete Smithing Overhaul mod permits enhancing the leveled unique stuff when you reach the next milestone of its leveled list, though i havent tested that feature yet.

I generally dislike levelling items (excepting potions perhaps), particularly for quest rewards. Getting 1200 gold for delivering a sword to someone 15 feet away is daft. I think Vegas handled this better you got a (generally) small physical reward but you really did quests for the xp and more importantly faction benefits. Now Skyrim has neither 'xp' nor factions so this is difficult but then most of the people who give you quests like this are merchants. replacing 'levelled sum of gold' with a discount is just as effective and less immersion breaking. Regarding the aforementioned Thane gifted weaponry that is generally neither used nor particularly wanted. Replacing them with something with equal value but greater utility would seem smart; a horse from Balgruff, a chest of silver ingots in Markarth [sic], free board at the in in Winterhold ect.
