As the title says, I'm having major issues with instability, stuttering, and heavy memory usage.

I'd load into my brand new level 1 save, and after playing for about 15-20 minutes I'd get a random crash. I tried reproducing it, but it is actually random. Until the game crashes it randomly hangs for about a second while wandering around outside of cities.

I'm not running any ENB, as the game becomes unplayable (enormous stuttering and single digit framerates) with any ENB installed. I'm also using Mod Organizer, and it reports no issues.

Your load order is NOT your mod list.

As far as memory goes a lot of that is going to be texture mods which we need to see your mod list for...NOT your load order.

Even if not using ENB you should still use ENBoost.

http://wiki.step-project.com/ENBoost

Are you using the SKSE memory patch?

Have you tried the new crash fixes?

If you are running a boatload of 2 and 4k textures...consider reducing some of them.

Elaborate on how I should get this mod list you're looking for? I've been out of the loop since 2014.

Anyway, the only texture mods I have installed are the Skyrim HD 2K pack, 2K trees, Skyrim Flora Overhaul (has textures IIRC), and 4K textures for an armor mod (Sotteta Necromancer outfit).

I tried ENBoost. Got the same problems as I had when I had an actual ENB.

Of course I'm using the SKSE memory patch. SKSE.ini settings:

[General]
ClearInvalidRegistrations=1
[Display]
iTintTextureResolution=2048
[Memory]
defaultHeapInitialAllocMB=1024
scrapHeapSizeMB=256

Elaborate on the crash fixes? Again, been out of the loop.

Hello,

  • <I'd load into my brand new level 1 save, and after playing for about 15-20 minutes I'd get a random crash.> Random crash troubleshoot.
  • <the game becomes unplayable (enormous stuttering and single digit framerates)> Stuttering troubleshoot.
  • Make sure your RAM is healthy and that the drive where your game is installed has enough free space or is not too fragmented. Same thing about the drive where windows is installed), the more you have better it is...and a 60 GB SSD is not much, especially if the game is installed on it. how much free space do you have on this drive ?
  • Make sure you're using the good mods >> Dangerous mods list.
  • Verify gamecache.
  • Ensure your skyrim installation is healthy = Make skyrim vanilla again.

Here is a list of things that may help stabilizing your game if not already been done. :

/// Load order / mods conflicts :

  • Use L.O.O.T once and click on the "sort plugins buttons".
  • Create a wryebash patch including leveled lists.
  • Create a merged patch with Tesedit excluding leveled lists
  • More specifically, you may create a manual patch between two or more mods.

/// Cleaning and correcting potential bugs :

  • Clean your master files to eliminate potential problems : Gopher's videos cleaning your masterfiles on the Nexus Tesedit page.
    Start Tes5edit, simply untick everything, (right-click/select none) and add only a tick to the esm/esp you want to check + update.esm, Tesedit knows what to do and will load all the dependencies automatically.
    - Begin with loading only Skyrim + update, ITM / UDR + save ctrl +s and close.
    - Then load Skyrim + update + Dawnguard, ITM / UDR + ctrl +s and close.
    - Then load Skyrim + update + Hearthfire, ITM / UDR + ctrl +s and close.
    - Then load Skyrim + update + Dragonborn, ITM / UDR + ctrl +s and close.
  • The method above can be used to clean mods. LOOT should tell you which plugin you should clean. You may also do a check errors.

/// Settings / memory :

  • Have you installed the skse patch ? >> memory blocks log. Your memory block log is ok.
  • Backup your ini files and delete the files. Skyrim.ini / SkyrimCustom.ini / SkyrimPrefs.ini found in C:\Users\Utilisateur\Documents\My Games\Skyrim then use your vanilla launcher to autodetect and use best settings for your computer.
  • You may install ENBOOST >> ENB graphics / ENB haxx.

/// Save game :

/// Meshes healer :

  • Read here, this is potentially a cause of CTD that you can resolve by following the mod procedure on this page.

/// Useful informations :

Hope this helps.

I have the game on my HDD because of the tiny SSD. Back in 2011, SSDs were expensive and I had to make compromises. Later on this year is when I plan my full rig rebuild, so I'll get a 1 TB SSD. Also wanted to add that my RAM has no errors and my HDD is not very fragmented, as I run Defraggler on it once every 10 days.

I'm not using any of the mods listed on the "Dangerous Mods" list, and I have the latest version of USLEEP.

Also wanted to point out that I had freshly installed Skyrim just prior to setting up these mods.

I've tried using Wyre Bash and TES5Edit before, but many issues came about from using them. However, personally I feel that was caused by my lack of knowledge of how to use either of those tools, and I'm still fairly hesitant to use them.

Lastly, I've mentioned prior that I've tried ENBs before, and even now they cause my game to become unplayable (massive stuttering, crashing, single digit framerates). The stuttering and crashing persist with ENBoost, and I have no idea why. I've tried everything I could find, such as disabling every overlay I can think of, reinstalling my graphics drivers, etc.

The biggest problem is that I really don't have the time to spare with going over all this material on how to properly mod Skyrim. I barely have enough time to spare to actually play the game itself. :S

At least I remember why I quit playing my modded playthrough of Skyrim back in mid 2014, and hadn't touched it since.

22 GB.

Edit: Went ahead and used TES5Edit to clean up the DLC and Update ESMs. Skyrim.esm was not touched.

Wrye Bash reported that there are no plugins able to be merged into a bashed patch.

Edit 2: Installed ENBoost. Game now immediately crashes as soon as the main menu loads on startup. I have no overlays open.

Edit 3: Removed ENBoost and moved the d3d9.dll file from RCRN out of the Skyrim folder, and now Skyrim launches properly. I move the dll file back into the folder and now Skyrim crashes on startup.

Update.

I wouldn't exactly call this a solution, as it didn't result in an ideal outcome like I hoped for. But a compromise is better than going nowhere.

Removed all traces of RCRN and ENB, then installed CoT and ELFX in their place. Game seems to work fine now. Too bad I won't ever be able to use any ENBs, but oh well. Pretty graphics aren't worth the mountain of configuration and troubleshooting that's required, especially since I've NEVER had any luck with getting ENB to play nicely with Skyrim on my PC.

Did a test by turning on God Mode, turning off collision, setting my speedmult to 4000 and running around Skyrim to try to bait a crash. Apart from the (expected) hangs as my HDD tries to catch up, the game did NOT crash.

Memory Blocks log below, from my little torture test.

Edit: Nevermind. Crashed while exiting an inn.

I give up.
