Handofbane Posted November 24, 2011 Share Posted November 24, 2011 One thing I have really come to appreciate with Skyrim compared to previous TES games has been the inclusion of diverse random encounters out in the world. -- I was wandering near the old woman's hut not far from Riverwood, when suddenly I heard a scream and saw two NPCs fighting... well more like one fighting and the other fleeing from him. The old woman yelled for help as well, so I jumped into the fray taking down the aggressor, who was wearing an odd mix of Imperial and Stormcloak armor. Well, it turned out I killed a "Scavenger", who had been chasing Maiq around with a battleaxe. After speaking to Maiq for a short while, he got bored and left, then I continued on my path the direction they had come from. I was even more surprised to find what looked like the remains of a small battle between a patrol of Imperials and Stormcloaks, with two of them looted completely, which totally explained the Scavenger's odd getup. -- While coming into Whiterun late at night from the Meadery, I saw a ghostly form on horseback running down the road to the west. Having never seen this before, I chased afterward only to see Ra'shid and the other Khajiit trading caravan members running like mad away from the Horseman, and became convinced it must be some special event tied to them (found out what it was for later, but still awesome as it was). -- After escorting the hippie Kynareth worshiper to the Eldergleam, I wandered a bit nearby to kill the dragon I had a bounty for, only to find it and have it ignore me as it engaged several other people on the ground farther east. Coming closer I saw what looked like an Imperial patrol, though their leader was an orc, fighting it out with the dragon, kicking its butt bigtime. I ran in to help them out and we downed the dragon, before their leader decided to engage me in conversation. He insisted I was in a restricted area and needed to pay a 100g fine for violating the law by being there. One rough fight later (3v1, and me in light armor), they died and I found the corpses of the Imperial patrol they had apparently killed and pilfered in the tall grass. raatorotta Posted November 24, 2011 Share Posted November 24, 2011 I have encountered that fake imperial patrol with orc two times. They never fought anyone though(exept me after i refuse to pay). One funny encounter was when i was walking near mountain, i hear a noise behind rocks. I walked there and saw two trolls fighting each other. I just waited that they got their health low and then killed them both.There was also a talking hagraven trapped in cage i encountered in some tower. She asked me to let her free and help me kill other hagraven that had took control of her tower. So i helped and got reward too.There is a lot of interesting and random stuff in Skyrim to encounter, if you just wander around. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Pineapplerum Posted November 25, 2011 Share Posted November 25, 2011 I found that hagraven too but she didn't give me the reward. She just stood there asking me if I thought her tower was pretty. xlr8films Posted November 25, 2011 Share Posted November 25, 2011 I had a lady run up to me claiming to have been bitten by a vampire and asking if I had a Cure Disease potion. I didn't, so I told her no. And she gets all mad and says she's running for a shrine or church or something. Since we passed each other, I was headed the direction she came from and about a mile or so down the road there was a vampire blasting the local wildlife with lightning. I let her kill the deer and rabbits and then put an arrow through her head. (I always get a chuckle when they yell at animals as if it were a full-blown combatant.) I've also seen the evil elves (I forget their name) escorting a prisoner. The prisoner always runs off after combat and never says thanks or anything. I, ofc, beeing a "SAVE ALL THE PEOPLE!" type of person, went to talk to him and he said bandits had robbed him and he'd very much liked me to escort him to his little house not far away from here, he'd give me a small reward even. And off we went. A few steps later he asked me to wait. ... "Fresh meat boys!" *five huge ass bandits attacking me* *questobjective changes to "kill the farmer"* Aww man. After killing the bandits in the upper fort, someone else dressed like one ran up to me, non-hostile, and force-initiated conversation. He handed me a magic helmet, then demanded I hang onto it til he came back for it, and not betray him, or else. He ran off, and a short while later a hunter ran up to me asking where the other guy went, giving me options to lie, point the way after him, or ask if the helmet was his, returning it.
