Load order and (long term) stability, 170 mods

Hello everyone,

 

I know this might be a bit too much asked since I have (yet) no actual problem that needs solving. My last attempt for a playthrough though ended with CtDs and "Bermuda-Areas" on the Riverwood-Whiterun road and around Whiterun after ten hours of playing with close to no issue. So I've started once again sorting my mods, watching guides and so on.

For the mod order I've followed the STEP-guideline in general but since many mods on that list don't appeal to me and I have mods that are not mentioned there (and in no pack) so my order is neither the STEP-core nor the STEP-extended.

 

Long story short: I'd like to know if anyone sees any critical issues I didn't. I'd really like to avoid having another seemingly stable playthrough just to discover issues in the later game ... I yet have to finish skyrim even once, but mods do enhance the game so much it's hard to pass on several mods.

Some things I've noticed:

- during my test when I've encountered NPCs (people and monsters alike) they were moving pinned to one spot so they didn't actually moved just gestured. This has been solved after a save and reload so I didn't pay much attention to it

- since I only partly followed STEP I know that I might relinquish any support because it's a custom setup and thus there is no "guarantee"

- also the "STEP Combined PluginHF.esp" probably is just a part of what it is supposed to be but the resources delivered with that mod have been needed for DynDOLOD (I get a CtD on startup if I disable the mod, though)

- the "More Interesting Loot for Skyrim" overwrites many other mods' textures (as I see it) while it just is for distributing loot. So I am not sure if this might be a harmful conflict or not. The mod's site states that it doesn't change anything and has no compability problems and even though I don't like the deleveled loot it seems to be less script heavy like most other loot-changing mods

- I am not quite sure where to place new lands and quest mods like "Falskaar" or "Moon and Star". I've read and seen contradicting orders. Following STEP those mods are Packs so they belong after the Core/Extended. On the other side they're more like DLCs so they'd fit to the beginning.

- also The "Immersive College of Winterhold" overwrites (mostly actor files) from "Moonpath to Elsweyr". Should I get rid of the former even though I haven't read of any incompabilities on either mod's site?

- also the pinned thread says to disable the Papyruslod. Is it harmful to let it enabled for the case something happens at some point?

He does use MO.

 

To the OP. Instead of the SKSE memory patch use the new crash fixes. Also making sure your enb local is configured correctly will help with stuttering.

 

Too further increase stability and to help with memory and stuttering consider reducing some landscape textures to 1k.

 

Don't worry too much about load order. Let LOOT handle it and adjust things manually as needed per mod authors instructions for the things that loot gets wrong.

 

For a superior guide over the base STEP check out neovalens skyrim revisited. It's what I use. :)

 

Regarding papyrus...you disable logging to save resources. Also papyrus logs aren't crash logs like a lot of people seem to think. They show script errors.

- I already use MO. To avoid redundance I left the message of MO as first line in the load order.

 

- After assembling the current order of mods I haven't changed it and of course used LOOT and created a bashed-patch.

 

- I already use ENB (needed for RealVisionENB to begin with) and have tweaked it. Also, as I wrote, a first test went without any problem. It's just that someone else might see a conflict that evaded me.

 

- How to recognis script-heavy mods or whichof those in my order would classify as script-heavy?

 

- I'll see into imaginator instead of ELFX. Problem is that other mods had via FOMOD patches included and even though I can figure out which one that has been, if I miss only one I am sure it will produce some errors. Maybe even errors I won't notice in the beginning but later on.

 

- The only SkyprocPatcher is for the DualSheathRedux. I'll see whether I will really need it (afair there haven't been dependencies on the DSR) and if not I will disable it to avoid the SkyProcPatch.

 

- Regarding the perks I use Ordinator, Wildcat, Imperious and Apocalypse in conjunction and since they're made by the same author I hope there won't be any problems ... at least not in this part :smile:

- I don't touch the right side of the MO since I hope Loot knows better than me how to order things *g

 

- I have used SL:RE too look up some orders also used it at the start for the cleaned ESMs which sounded useful for me to have a Vanilla-like installation. But it's a bit too much for me and like with the STEP Core I'd rather skip some (for me) unnecessary mods ...

 

- Okay, I'll disable the Papyrus-Log then as long as the game runs stable. Thanks for the clarification. (And indeed, I didn't really saw anything useful there ... just so many errors that made me fear whether there is any way at all to create a stable game).

 

- Yeah, I've spend some time with searching for informations. But I think the ENB now would be least of a problem. I hope for more stability when I changed the SkyrimHD 2k textures for the LITE version.

But you're right ... when in doubt, stability precedes preferences ...

... maybe I'll build one profile without Frostfall and try if I'd really miss it.

In my experience, the 'UseOSAllocators' function from the Crash Fixes mods is much better than ENB's memory management.

 

I'd personally recommend swapping over to Crash Fixes entirely.

I just started as an Alik'r but when I got a hundred meters (downhill after the local mine entrance) I've experienced a CtD.

I will try without Frostfall+Campfire now (no much need building campfires when there is no urge like shivering to death otherwise ^^") and with the Allocation set to 1.

 

Strange, that once I build a character I want to play and actually start playing I get this while during testing with a char named "Prisoner" and flying through skyrim nothing happens :/

 

Edit:

Still CtDs at the exact same location: Once the "Karthspire Camp" is in sight and I get closer, coming from "Soljund's Sinkhole".
