Biggest lack in Fallout 3 and NV

Is it only me who thinks so or are the option to interact with the environment in Bethesda´s Fallout games very poorly? I mean what can you do with npc´s for example? You can shoot them down or talk to them while always keeping distance. There never comes an option to..for example strike an npc with a bare hand or fist as part of the conversation (like if the npc said something wrong) or pushing the npc to the ground..or target him with a gun to intimidate him or her.

Only talking while both, the own char and the npc do stand like candles..or closing conversation and blast em away like any other random mop.

Somehow that gives the game even more a feeling of isolation. As if there is a invisible barrier between each chars wich can only be penetrated in combat.

Your opinions, comments?^^

^**** NO!!!!

Fallout is not using anything like Mass Effect's broken ass dialogue system. In Mass Effect if you keep clicking on the same button in dialogue throughout the entire game you get the "reward" of being able to persuade people but if you ever ever use another option in dialogue you cant persuade anyone anymore. That pretty much sums it up. Mass Effect also has a "punish people who dont persuade" system instead of a "reward people that do" system. So in short the only thing Fallout can ever learn from ME is combat.

Anyway the great thing is Fallout 4 will use the creation engine which makes a lot more stuff possible in the player npc interaction department.

Well, it's been always the big downside of the Bethesda games/engines, that they can't catch up with some more cinematic games, like f.e. your typical Final Fantasy.

Some reasons are obvious, like in your typical FF armors and/or are simply stat-boosters, but not seen ingame. This also sucks, but adds the possibility of FMV (render sequences).

But it's very true, that the dialogues could have been done a lot better.

F.e. it's kinda weird seeing Alice Hostetler, who has unique animatios no one else in the game has

Or playing Nehrim (which uses the same engine as FONV) and see how much and well done ingame-sequences are in that "game" (game/overhaul/whatever).

One of the biggest flaws in that "immersion" topic was the ending of the "Hard Luck Blues" quest.

You have some terminal SOS, which could be decades or even over hundred years old. And that's it.

It's one of the most interesting quests in the game, since no matter what the player does, there is no "perfect" ending.

And it's so awfully presented ingame :psyduck:

It's a perfect example of what all Bethesda games need. More cutscenes, radio messages, etc.

That is the very reason why mods exists.

Have you ever heard of a mod called Project Ultimatum?

You say you cant push npc's? This mod allows you to.

How about aim a gun at them to intimidate them or simply make them surrender without a fight? You got it right here.

Need to lure an enemy right around the corner but how?! You can whistle.

Holy @#&, bunch of enemies following you? Close the door and lock it so they cant get through.

There are many more features this mod gives you, and all of the above that i mentioned is only a part of that mod.

There are other mods which try to make the game more immersive like PU.

Project Nevada. You can sprint. You can tackle a enemy down. Helmets and glasses actually have visor overlays. Other options which make it more realistic.

How about companion sandbox mode mod and the player sandbox (forgot actual name); both of these mods make it so that your companions and your character arent just standing candles. They actually move around, interact with surrounding objects and environment.

There are also mods that let you actually interact with the environment. And another that lets you break items by shooting them, hitting them, etc. (Sorry the mods names are not popping up in my head) The modding community the nexus is filled with these assortments. You just have to take the time to find them.

But if you were just talking about Bethesda, sure i guess they could've taken the time to implement these things into the game. Why they didnt? I dont know :3
