OneTrueForky
Howdy y'all. I've been getting back into Oblivion (want to try to FULLY complete Oblivion before I play Skyrim, i.e., complete every quest possible, obtain every item, discover every location), and I want to use the console, because hey, if I run out of arrows or magicka, and I'm out of stuff (I like traveling light), it'd be nice to open up a console, type in some arrows or a potion or two, and get them, right? Well apparently the powers that be, whomever or whatever they are, don't seem to like this idea. So I go onto Google, and go to UESPWiki, and I follow the instructions there. I've done everything from messing with the .ini file, to downloading the mods and everything they require to run. Guess what! I'd like to say "I got it working!" but, if I had gotten it working, I wouldn't be making this topic, now would I? I'm aware of the IR receiver, and it is non-existent on my computer. Control Panel > Device Manager > Human Interface Devices contains no IR receiver of any kind, seeing as how I don't have one of the Media PC's. So, some of the stuff I'm running: Completely updated version of Windows Vista, no special mods, like running on a previous service pack, nothing. Oblivion is completely up-to-date, as are OBMM and OBSE. The mods that I have found that everybody has praised, I downloaded, and they are, in order of download, "Ring of Mod", "ChangeConsoleKey", "Console Spell". They are the only ones listed in the link provided, by the way. If anybody needs additional specs from my PC, ask, and I shall tell. TL;DR: I dun goofed, tried to fix it, did everything, nothing worked. Sadface. -OneTrueForky EDIT: I dun goofed on some spelling/grammar. Balakirev
I'm a bit confused. I've used over 1000 mods at one time or another since the game came out, currently have 250+ running, regularly frequent the official mod forums, and never heard of these three mods "that everybody has praised." Why do you need to change the console key? What does an IR receiver have to do with anything? By default, you hit the schwa key, right above tab, and the console starts up. No spell required. You tap the key, the console runs, you input the code you want. If you take out your mods and use the default console key, what happens?

The topic starter said OS is Windows Vista. - Oblivion console(Read the note)To OP: Make sure you launched the game with OBSE launcher(if you're on Steam, you need launcher dll, not launcher executive). Also, if your game is installed in default diretory, I recommend you to uninstall it, reinstall it somewhere else other than default.Another: You don't need Console key changer when Ring of console works well. Try console key changer If the ring does not work, or you have problem using ring in-game.

Putting the Ring of Mod in my \data\ folder allowed me to equip the ring, but to no avail. I even tried changing the resolution and switching to windowed mode, to see if the console was just hidden somehow. Well, it wasn't. It's just plain not there. And the reason I say "that everybody has praised" is that the comments for those downloads / mods are 90% positive. I'll try the uninstall/install trick tomorrow. -OneTrueForky
