Fallout 4 Creation Kit Issues

Struggling to get the CK working very well on my laptop. I'm aware that I shouldn't really be modding on a laptop but it's all I've got. It can run FO4 fairly well normally which is why it's frustrating, but the CK crashes to desktop as soon as I try to load a cell and takes several minutes to get going. It comes up with the alert "display driver has stopped responding and restarted" as soon as it crashes which is why I'm hoping something's just messed up somewhere and was wondering if anyone had any similar issues? Posting specs as well. Thanks in advance

OS: Windows 10 64 bit

Processor: Intel Core i5-4210U CPU @1.70GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz

Memory: 8gb Ram

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 8500M

Display: Intel® HD Graphics Family

I get that same error on a pretty regular basis and I'm using a Geforce 720 card. Things I've learned to not do to at least reduce the frequency of the error: don't overclock your hardware while running the CK, don't run the game at the same time for testing, and there are some cells you probably just can't go such as downtown Boston.

you do realize that CK loads up the whole game right ?

Imagine that i have a i5 @ 3.8Ghz 8Gb ram and a GTX 970 and in CK it crawls especially when the render window opens .

Now that 8500m is hellaslow even though you play the game (im assuming very low quality or low res. ) Things change when you try using it for editing.

Also note there could be an issue with the drivers having an issue with CK .
have you tried other drivers ?

Also look at the event viewer in control panel/admin tools and maybe find what exactly crashed or failed to respond.

Try this,

  1. open the Ckit
  2. Go to File/Preferences
  3. Set "Grids to Load" 2 or 3 (Default is 5) (You can even set the :Grids to Load" 1 BUT, You won't see very much and it's a bit hard to work on a cell unless your just looking to do something very specific.)
  4. load your mod or the FO4.esm
  5. try going to a worldspace, (It may still take a long time to load I'm on an under powered system myself and this works for me even in downtown.)

Hope this helps.

Edit: setting the "Grids to Load" doesn't stick so you'll have to make the pref edit every time you wan't to look at or do any worldspace editing.

Edit 2: to fix some errors it was File not Edit and "Grids to load" not Ugrids.
