HaikenEdge
Out of curiosity, what're are the best candidates for Dead Thralls? I'm currently using a Forsworn Ravager, who does decently well, but I have this itching feeling that there's better out there.
frakle
I'd say a guard would be pretty good, or if you can find one, a werewolf or master vampire.
HaikenEdge
I've read that you can actually Thrall named NPCs (and possibly some beasties), which makes me wonder, aren't a lot of named NPCs tougher than generic vampires and werewolves, if not also guards? Well it depends on if you mean named NPCs as in NPCs like Brenuin the beggar in Whiterun, or Movarth Piquine, the vampire from the Morthal quest In Brenuin's case, I'd say the guards and assorted unholy beasts would be much more powerful, but in Movarth's case, perhaps it is worth a try. If nothing else, you could just test them out, if you don't like them, Fus Do Rah them off the Throat of the World :P

As well as any Necromages you can find. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Orchendor
justwannaddl
Dead thrall has better returns as you level up since new enemies in dungeons generally get stronger the more powerful you get. I'm not sure about the named NPCs though since some have static levels. If you are doing the mage guild quest though, you have at least two thalmor and a dark elf worth enslaving by the end of it. edit: In any case, don't forget to arm them with staves as backup weapons, especially if they are relatively low level. Not very useful. Edited December 23, 2011 by jimhsu
Jackal2233
I just dead thralled the emperor  Also Victoria Vici hehe, with her husband attacking her lol Freakin hilarious really though they tend to die quick, more for comical reasons to have them around. Conjuration + Dead thrall + Sneak = hilarity Besides sometimes on epic battles I fail in a cool dual-sword beheading move so I raise them again then kill them again but this time with their head rolling about. Funny really, if you don't kill them right, raise them again and do it better lol
SpellAndShield
Do the Dawnspeaker quest, the Necromancer will continue to have his ability to turn into a ghost after he is killed.
TimF
Dremoras, like the ones that guard Dagon shrine. Also, I don't know whether you can enthrall him in vanilla, but with empowered necromancy mode I've resurrected this guy.
