y2k21
Spear's be needed for skyrim!Yes animation will have to be worked into the lunging and such, but it would be quite useful in the game!

Rabbit1251
I'm actually quite surprised that they weren't included this time around especially considering it's Nords we're discussing, Rabbit
y2k21
Well if we can gather up a lot of supporters im sure someone would step up to the plate and satisfy our hunger for poking things!
Kalva
After the modding kit thingy-ma-- Creation Kit! Once that is released I'm sure we'll begin to see many amazing things! At this time, I would suggest someone with artistic talent comes along who will take the time to draw us designs for the different types of spears, and from there we hope for a modeler and a texturer.. Then an animator... Oh the many people and steps that can be needed. A jack of all trades is fantastic, but I think I much prefer having a neat little team! Perhaps we should take time to think of different weapons types that weren't added? Long spears, short spears... A myriad of throwing weapons such as bola, shuriken, javelins. Of course, throwing weapons can get a little silly~ Ah! Let us not forget killing additions.. Discussion of perks? Do they get added to the existing one-handed and two-handed trees as another extension, or their own tree? Oh the questions and things we could discuss... y2k21
Well what we had in Oblivion and Morrowind was quite amazing. Taking what was in morrowind for sure, that was just a giant MODgame within itself, we must take after what we know if it.Of course id like to have more in debt skill tree, weapon tree etc. It just makes it more interesting to immerse your self in so many upgradeable areas.I am sure hoping the mod tools that are being released as you say, would greatly increase the number of mods and the goodness of mods.Throwing weapons would not be such a bad idea, but spears is quite useful and or halberds / pikes, anything with a 12 foot reach lolz. Kalva
Well, for now, in the one-hand and two-hand trees each 'class' of those weapons have a unique perk for itself that you can delve 3 points into. I know for two-handers it is Bleeding Damage for Axes, Critical Hit Chance for Swords, and Ignoring Armor for Hammers... Now, normally we would see Spears ignoring armor in most games, but that particular bonus is already taken. We could give them a range bonus, yes... Or perhaps Penetrating attacks, where or standing charging thrusts pierce through multiple enemies? But at what rate? 1 enemy at one point, 3 at two points, and then as many as you can at three points? it'd be quite the ramp up...
Toftaps
Now, normally we would see Spears ignoring armor in most games, but that particular bonus is already taken. I like the idea of longer-ranged melee attacks, but at the same time it would be kind of useless since there's no real way to keep multiple opponents from just rushing up to you. Piercing would be cool, but it would far too situational to be worth it for a melee weapon; how often to you see enemies lining up in front of you? Since all the most obvious perks are already taken; why not give spears a small jab to replace the basic shield bash? To keep it from being game-breaking (Wouldn't we all like to just jab things to death from behind our shields) make it do less damage than normal/power attacks with the shield down or take a lot more stamina than a regular bash. If all else fails, you could just resort to making them have more damage than maces/hammers, enough to make them viable without the specialized perks. Kalva
Actually, I've had many times where I wish my standing power attack, or rushing one, would hit all the enemies I'm facing, not just the side-ways sweeps. Situational, yes.. So much situational, that putting more than just 1 point into that particular special might just be completely useless.. Though that's really all I've got as far as a spear's particular specialty could be. *shrugs*
y2k21
I would see spears being beneficial for the initial thrust when an enemy attacks, then from there on, you can use it as a swinging/tripping the enemy, ie tripping being paralyze perhaps, as they would fall to the ground after the tripping, maybe that can be an unlockable skill. For damage, i would think light to medium, variable. I can see a heavy attack being a strong thrust initially.Having different way to use a spear, 1 hand no shield, 1 hand with shield, 2 handed. Each with its different skill set. I can see the spear being used against a dragon, or any large creatures. Also one thing that would really impress me is the blocking ability that mount and blade has. I applaud them at how they did it there.
