Latest Steam Patch Trashes Skyrim

Hi everyone. I just set Steam to online to see if there was a bug fix update. It downloaded approx 18-20 MB patch. Now Skyrim crashes after 5minutes of game time.

I understand this completely messes up the 4GB enabler workaround I had already set up. Plus I'm reading a lot of horror stories about this new patch at the moment, the fact that its DRM related and contains no bug/quest fixes. Having said that for the five minutes I could actually play it looked like distant waterfalls finally animated. Of couse if I'd realised what this patch did I would never have updated my game.

Does anyone have any advice or possible workarounds to this issue, before I start putting complaints in to Bethesda?

Right there with you I can play for maybe 5 minutes generally liket two and then straight to the desktop.

Well I still have the backup I made of the old exe. So if all else fails I'll give that a go.

Its the same old story with Bethesda in recent years. Some faceless accountant and his monkeys runing the show. Part of the reason New Vegas was initially flaky was probably because some executive at Bethesda shouted "Release, release", rather than letting Obsidian finish the job properly.

I am seriously disgusted with this lastest attitude they've adopted. There's apparently thousands of complaints and nothing but silence from the company themselves. Never mind the fact that the PS3 version is totally unstable and likely to never be fixed. Makes me now wonder if the Creation Kit is nothing but a fantasy spun by shadowy executives. Lets face it they've sold 7 million plus units now, why should they care?

TagyaGirl: Thanks but I think I'll just try replacing the exe with the backup I made. I don't like the idea of this new all invasive patch.

BarefootWarrior: Yeah I think I'll never put Steam in online mode again, but judging by the privacy comment you made earlier today, it may autoupdate offline anyway. And yes games are supposed to fun but only as long as they don't upset daily profit margins. What do you think they've been doing for the last 2 weeks, fixing bugs or checking the daily balance sheets, I suspect its the latter.

Okay just wanted to add that I've managed to solve the problem. Thankfully I had made a backup of the version 1.1 exe. I have set that to large memory aware and the issue has been solved.

For anyone who is planning on updating I really cannot reccomend enough that you backup the original exe in case Bethesda pull this stunt again. Obviously this solution doesn't help the thousands of people who are now stuck with this game breaking problem. Bethesda should be ashamed. And yes I'm referring to the accountants who are in control, not the development team who I have a great deal of admiration and respect for.
