Underpowered Shouts?

Is it me or Shouts in Skyrim are really underpowered? I mean seriously it does almost no damage at all and some of them are useless... Take the fire breath for instance, when im fighting a Dagur Deathlord (pretty sure I mispelled Dagur sorry =/) and use the mastered version, it does really really low damage, my regular weapons can do more than that, and Dagurs are sorta Ice based aren't they? They can do the frost thing wich drains stamina and summon forst Atronachs (mispelled that too =/), and the Ice shouts do even less damage to them... Also I'd like to point out that "dismaying shout" and "disarm" are absolutely useless, even if you master them they don't work on pretty much anything, and the famous "FUS ROH DAH!" is sorta useless too, I mean, you push your enemy really far away from you but it does no damage too so it was pretty much a waste because they will probably get up by the time you are close to them again, wich is kinda weird considering that your character takes bloody hours o get up if a Dagur uses FOS ROH DAH on you...

And theres the cooldowns... They should be shorter, because if you actually try to kill a greybeard "setessential 0 or something like that" they pretty much spam shouts at you and because you take 1 bloody hour to get up you can't do anything, but wait, you are dragonborn, and can easily learn the words of power but still you are weaker? You can "master" the shout but still can't use it nearly as much as the greybeards?

The only useful shouts are Aura Whisper, Elemental Fury (wich has a chance to have a bug that keeps looping that wind sound wich annoys the crap out of you and you have to "sexchange" twice (to get back to your original sex) whenever you load your game) Dragonrend ( to kill dragons but just for the sake of it because you will spend your souls in useless shouts) and Storm call (wich doesn't do a lot of damage too, but it is kind of awesome and it's not one hit but a storm wich hits a lot of times).

So what are your opinion on this?

Most shouts are used as CC or for fun. By that I mean: They are not really made for damaging.

I mean, the "Fus Roh Dah" shout, whch I forgot the name of, has saved my mage TONS of times when a dragon decides to spew on me. The sprint one also makes traveling easier!

We then got the slow time, which have saved me too!

The idea of shouts is really not to be a man-dragon spewing fire. Just for fun, and for the "OH s***! OUT OF MANA!" moments.

FOS ROH DAH is good in exteriors where you have cliffs and high rocks...i usually use it there to blow enemies down wich kills them instantly...also it negates a dragons fire attack...but in dungeons its really useless.

I agree shouts arent very strong and with the exception of few, most of them are rather useless...i never got disarm shout to work.

Honestly, in my opinion shouts are more of an excuse for beth to put in the dragons story and give you some power, so you are like connected with them and feel epic, but they fail to deliver in that way...i have fun with them but they are the last thing im using in combat and most of the time i forget i even have them.

I enjoy using the unrelenting force one its good fun throwing enemies around. Its also useful if you aim it so they go into a nearby wall. That way you can get to them and hit them before they get up. Or you can just throw them off of cliffs or castle walls which is also fun.

The fire breath isnt brilliant but I only have the level 1 version of that so I have no idea what the later levels are like. Become ethereal is useful if I want to jump off a mountain to get down quicker and Ive have fun with the ice one too. Someone was chasing me and I turned them into a block of ice and they ended up going over a cliff

The marked for death came in useful as well when I was out numbered by hags. Ive also used it on a couple of dragons.

To be honest I can probably find a use for them all, but the damage ones dont do a lot of damage like you say. The one I have found least useful is the frost one (not the freeze one).

The lore kinda says otherwise, I mean Talos is the greatest examble, he is TIber Septim but Talos is his nord name, he was dragonborn too and with the power of the shouts he managed to create the empire, and I mean, that's requires a lot of power doesn't it? And even dragons recognize you as powerful, "Dovahkinn" or when you

first meet Phartanax, he's all like, "yeah you said hello and all, but do it the dragons way! *teaches you word of power of fire breath*" then you go and use it on him and hes like "NOW THATS MORE LIKE IT!" and he feels your power

Sooo... yeah... They should be just a bit more powerful don't you think?

i think the force shout is pretty awesome. it\s the one i use most.

in dungeons, i generally use it while charging into a room. knocking down half the enemies buys some time, they can't throw spells at me, or summon minions while they're on the ground. I'll follow that up by attacking whoever looks easiest with whatever i have to hand.

Outdoors, it's just godly. People take fall damage from remarkably short heights. if you're fighting in a high place (which is most of skyrim) it's a free kill.

The ice form shout is also incredibly powerful, playing as a mage. if things get too close, i just freeze them, run away, and get a free spell in.

whirlwind charge i found mainly useful for getting over to a dragon after they land, but it can be good for fleeing too. way too long cooldown though..

and Marked for Death is the best in the game, imo. the armor reduction it gives pretty much doubles your physical damage output. cast it on a dragon or any boss (it can never fail) and chop them to bits.

i will agree that almost all of the cooldowns are too long, and some of them really need a lot more buffing to work.

Yup that's a bit useful, and like I said, have you noticed how enemies get up faster than you do?

It has a massive cooldown and crappy damage.

Become Etheral is very useful, I forgot to mention that one, it also helps you get the first strike in a battle in lower levels when you are not to powerful.

Someone was chasing me and I turned them into a block of ice and they ended up going over a cliff

That's not very common to happen, and this would be more useful if the cooldown wasn't that huge, and again like I said, the greybeards spam shouts, and the Ice Formation is one of them, wich can get pretty annoying and once again, why couldn't the cooldown be a bit lower?

I don't think so, the damage is so low that it's just useless...

Uhh... I don't think so...

The lore

Mixing the lore, with gameplay, is a big failure. There is no connection. Then we'd be 1-shotting everything with the shouts. Fun, right?

Marked for Death is probably overpowered, but the best shout I've used so far.

Kyne's Peace is handy out in the wilds when you don't want to bother with the wildlife interrupting you (bears, cats, trolls)

Force Shout best for multiple weaker mobs or to stun a boss mob right up front before they can do any special attacks/defense.

Underpowered? I think not. They're made for certain situations, you just need to figure out the best way to use them.
