worm82075 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Blisteringly good idea came to me while praising DamarStiehl for MM:R. Every December we open a thread for posting nominees to various categories such as Best Companion Mod, Best New Race, etc, etc.. At the end of the month we run the polls derived from the tallied nominations. At the end of January we tally the votes and issue the rewards which will be a permanent fixture in the authors profile. We could even spend the first few months of this year holding the awards for 2006 and 2007 in order to catch up. I could very well conduct these surveys and polls myself and then post the results for all to see, but that would hardly compare to it being done in an official capacity and integrated into the site. Not only would this provide an additional outlet to give respect to those that deserve it, but will also show anyone knew to the community who our best and brightest are. I think it's a good idea. What do you think?
ninja_lord666 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 That's what the Top 100 is for. I don't really see the need to constantly reward these people over, and over, and over for their mods. We get it! They're great! We don't need to be reminded of it in every corner of the web! I think the Top 100 is just fine, especially since these "academy awards" will simply go to the very same people on said list. It'll do absolutely nothing.
ResidentWeevil2077 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Agreed, Ninja - I know you're only trying suggest something that some might feel is needed, Worm. But the fact is that those who do receive awards don't actually need to be rewarded, and for others to be reminded of those awards. If you've earned someone's respect, then that is all you really need. Having an online awards ceremony, while may be good for a year or so, in the long run it would only create division in the community. I'd hate to disagree with you Worm, but I think it really wouldn't be a good idea.
worm82075 Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 I'm afraid I hadn't taken those factors into consideration and now that I have I can see that your both correct on this matter. Thanks for stepping forward and being straight with me. That was cool. As for my previous idea of putting a self search posts button in the control panel, no one has stepped up to shoot that down. Nor has anyone said it was a good idea. Oh well, this site doesn't revolve around me now does it? Later
