Skyrim and ATI HD 6970 card: bad performance

How is it possible that people with a lot worse card run skyrim in ultra with 50-60 FPS everywhere and i, with a 6970 card get like 20 FPS in towns (like falkreath, whiterun,...) and 30 fps when i travel around?

Is it a common issue iwth ATI cards? Becouse i know people with 6970 cards, ultra settings and HD mods that have good FPS.

Please help me, it is ruining my adventure in Tamriel! LOL

Oh, i installed the 11.11b ati drivers released yesterday i think.

thats the EXACT same setup i used to have and the same setup my brother currently has. weird.

My brother has the 6850 with that exact same mobo/cpu and he is pulling 34-48 fps on ultra without overclock.

are you running aftermarket textures?

are you running fraps or is that fps a guess?

I'd suggest uninstalling all vga drivers, then run Driver Sweeper in Safe mode to get rid of any remnants. Then reinstall the latest drivers from AMD.

Another thing would be to check that you don't have a firewall of AV program that is limiting the game in some way.

Does it run other games ok?

I get ~ 50 fps in the worst outdoor areas with a heavily tweaked .ini file - On default "Ultra" I don't think it ever went under 67 fps when I was benchmarking it.... my rig is in the sig....

I have a 6950 2gb and had the same problem.

There is a problem with the way AA is handled.

In the games graphic options put AA and AF to the off position.

In the controll centre put the settings for AA to performance not quality( the slider at the bottom) and set it to 2x or 4x (the slider at the top)

Everything else can be maxed out.

I went fron 15fps to 45fps.

Let me know if this fixed your problem?

aftermarket textures? If you mean mod textures yes, i've been following this guide:http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11

no, i were running fraps

By disabling "Xbox 360 Controller" in the gameplay tab under settings, my fps improved by about 15. try that. I was running on ultra and had the same frustration as OP.

This acutally helped me, i got like 5 fps, but i still have 15-19~ FPS in cities.

I assume you've installed the custom ati .dll and run the 4gb Skyrim .exe before you go tinker with more options, yea?

Fixed all my random crashing I have and it's smooth as a baby's bottom currently .. though I've repacked all the custom textures into my .bsa files aswell, so that could probably help aswell .. But I don't recommend doing that if you don't know what you're doing and are absolutely sure you want it ;p (keeping backups helps tho)

You mean this custom ati .dll? I've already tried it, i notice a improvment of 10FPS but with this i can't even use a FXAA injector, and i really hate the vanilla graphics, i wont surelly play without injector.

Is there a way to use the ati . dll and an injector?
