gmillar
There are so many other places in Tamriel that could be made, that we haven't seen before. You guys know Morrowind and Oblivion still work, right? You can just go play them. I don't understand at all the appeal of remaking something that already exists. Not to mention, they are hugely ambitious projects that will almost certainly never be released. Not trying to hate I'm just puzzled. I'd way rather see something new and exotic. http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/gallery_files/minibigmaproadslore31gv.jpg
severian1981
There are a few possible reasons to recreate instead of create: 1) Nostalgia2) People will actually be able to tell if they've done a good job3) "Just coz"4) Not a lot of design required, just a LOT of work. In regards to 2), what I mean is... I could create Hammerfell on my own, add some vegetation and throw down a few buildings. How many people could tell me that the 'feel' of the place is right, let alone the design, layout, population density etc is correct? If I recreated Vvardenfell, people could play Morrowind and verify just how closely my mod matched the original game (as an example)
gmillar
I just don't see the appeal in copying old content. It seems like an awful lot of work, considering you can easily just go back and play those games. Maybe it's just my ADD but the difference between making something new and redoing something old is like night and day for me.
droscoe2
I also think that folks want to recreate Morrowind and Oblivion because of the improvement in technology. I wish I could play Oblivion or Morrowind under current tech. How awesome would that be? Also consider that some PC folks are more into graphical quality or realistic appearance. Maybe they don't like playing old looking games...? I don't understand at all the appeal of remaking something that already exists So they shouldn't have made the new Batman movies, or Doom 3, or produced the new Camaro, or Wolfenstein 3D, or release the new version of Spider-man? I look forward to an Oblivion/Morrowind conversion. I welcome new, updated versions of great work from the past! gmillar
Well each to their own I suppose, I just can't understand wanting to rehash old content instead of doing something new and different.
droscoe2
Hm, i see your point. Is that a challenge? :P
darkblayd
I don't think people are talking about copying them so much as revisiting them 200 years later. What changes they make will be far more interesting than what they 'copy' or leave the same.
huntsman2310
Agreed.I'd much prefer going to Black Marsh or Elsweyr then going back to Cyrodiil, Cyrodiil in Oblvion was a very generic medieval fantasy landscape. I haven't played Morrowind, but I reckon making the post-eruption Morrowind would be far more interesting then the old one.
gmillar
Exactly, I've heard most people say they thought Oblivion was the most generic of the series. Cyrodiil certainly seems very vanilla. There are so many possibilities for interesting locales. It is a little discouraging to see that everyone immediately wants to tackle huge projects, as they seem pretty unrealistic. A dedicated team could easily work for years on just one of the smaller islands in Morrowind (for example).
ryanwh
It seems really pointless to remake the games themselves, but using Oblivion and Morrowind as a framework to build the areas, then doing some new stuff, isn't the worst idea I've heard.
