stebbinsd
I've heard about the trick where you plant industrial water purifiers and sell off the purified water they produce. The problem is that you don't gain experience from this trick, and you can't even wait or fast travel to pass the time. I've discovered another trick, one that gives experience and one that doesn't require you to go out and do any more dungeon crawling. It basically revolves around making money as a drug dealer. First, start the game with 10 charisma. Ideally, you'll want to get your charisma up to 12, but you make a considerable profit just with 10 charisma. Take the cap collector perk as soon as you can. If you only have 10 charisma, but don't have the cap collector perk, you'll actually loose money on this trick. Head over to Diamond City Surplus and purchase shipments of fertilizer and plastic. You should have twice as much fertilizer as you have plastic; a 2-to-1 ratio. I use a mod that makes merchants have 50 of each shipment, so if you don't have that mod, I recommend traveling to Greygarden and purchasing a second shipment of fertilizer from Supervisor Brown (or maybe it's green; I can't remember). Early in the game, you can buy just fertilizer to increase your profit even further, since Sanctuary will have plenty of plastic for you to scrap. Get to a chem station and spam jet. Jet is the best to use for this trick, since you can buy the ingredients in infinite quantities (provided you give the merchants enough time to restock their supplies) and make a mark-up from it. You'll gain experience from this, which automatically makes it better than the "purified water" trick. You don't gain a lot of experience (at 10 intelligence, you only gain 3XP for each jet created), but it's better than nothing. You're all welcome for this trick! Mavkiel
Or do a combo of the two. Get the purified water, and make your own jet. If you really build lots of water plants, you will need a scrooge mcduck'ian vault to hold all the caps. If you play on survival, just the act of going from merchant to merchant selling water will take enough time for the purifiers to restock. That way you get caps, get exp, build a great foundation for your settlement empire. It's what I call a win win win. I usually take 50 shipments of fertilizer and 25 shipments of plastic - giving me a total of 1,400 jet's worth of ingredients. The time it takes me to spam the A button on my X360 controller to create 1,400 jet is usually enough to allow the purified water to refill, since that still counts as "playing" the game (as opposed to waiting, sleeping, or fast traveling).
