TickleBottoms
So I've run into a problem im sure a lot of the adults have faced, balancing gaming and work. Fortunately during slow hours I can dick around with my laptop while waiting for people to come in. So with my big and expensive gaming PC at home and the few hours a night I have to actually sit down and play on it. My question is this can I install Fallout NV or any game on a flash drive and spend all the necessary time to properly mod it during the day while still being able to take it home and play it on my PC at night without any problems arising.(I also have a nice external hard drive I can use just don't know which one would be better or if it makes a difference) Any advice is appreciated

DoctorKaizeld
Uh... Yes is only kinda right. You can do it that way but you will have a hard time with it as flashdrives are made for storage not games. So you will need to get one that can transfer files fast if you want to attempt it... But i strongly do not recommend it.
dubiousintent
A flashdrive connects through the USB port. So it is restricted to USB data transfer speeds. If you have ever used an external hard drive that supports both through a USB 2.0 port and then through a USB 3.0 port, you will notice quite a speed difference (Mbits/sec vs GBits/sec). But the flashdrive has to also be capable of supporting that same transfer speed, which means you need to verify that the port and flashdrive match. There is also an "overhead" penalty in control signals that USB imposes which hard drives avoid. There is more than one reason why you don't hear about playing games on a flashdrive. (This article addresses some of the difficulties in making such "speed" comparisons.) So, the "yes" answer is correct, but I would recommend the external drive option as preferable. Note that the cable used to connect the drive to the computer makes a difference as well in the data throughput rate. -Dubious- Edited August 23, 2016 by dubiousintent
Purr4me
small Flash drive get really hot too. I use both ext4renal USB drives and Toshiba flash drives as well as ssd cards.WD passport seems to do the best on a 3.0 port.
