Ive never done anything with the railroad before because i dont like them but does tradecraft change anything major with the other storylines and or factions? is it worth completing?

You have to do Tradecraft to get invited into the Railroad. Even if you don't side with them, it's a good idea to do some quests for them because, unless you are using a mod, doing a few Railroad quests is the only way to unlock ballistic fiber, which at higher levels can give you a ridiculous armor bonus. Also you get access to Deacon as a companion and his affinity perk is pretty decent.

You have no choice but to do it to continue the main story if you don't side with the Minutemen or the BoS. It's the only way to ... erm ... build a certain device. However if you've sided with either of the other two factions, you can completely ignore it, unless you want Dickon ... I mean Deacon as a follower/companion.

 

Ballistic Fibre can also be gained with the addition of a simple mod that places it ... elsewhere, for you to find.

Meh to ballistic weave. Meh to the railroad. Its worth doing the railroad quests with a second or third character just to watch the Prydwen explode but the railroad doesn't have anything of real value to me. You do need them to decode the courser chip but after that I have no moral dilemma exterminating them. I found Deacon to be extremely annoying. He constantly changes wardrobe so giving him armor is annoying. He constantly spews verbal diarrhea with conflicting information daring you to guess if he is a synth or not. I blew his head off with a gatling laser because that's the only way you can tell for sure. SetEssential 0
