Trey5511
So, whats with the Keening in Skyrim? Is it a fake or something? Or is there some explanation I'm missing as to why you can wield it without wraithguard?
raatorotta
What? There is Keening there? Only unique daggers i have found have been Dragon priest dagger and Mehrunes razor this far.And why Keening would be in Skyrim is maybe because some dunmer saved it from buried in lava when Red mountain erupted. Trey5511
Mmm, i suppose i didn't properly word my question. I know why keening is in skyrim, the quest makes plenty of sense, I'm just confused by being able to use it without wraithguard.
Draco856
You can use it, but you may have missed the "Mortal Wound" effect that gets added when you do wield it. I've never used it long enough, or even looked at the effect, but I'm pretty sure it's likely to make you weaker if you use it. That, and I saw what happened to the guy you got it for...don't really wanna end up like that. I would have liked it much better if we had the full set, but that's for a modder to fix, give us Sunder and Wraithguard and let us be mighty! But to answer your question, no it's not a fake or replica. It's the real deal, just doesn't kill you because you aren't wielding both tools at the same time. You only have one half, and one half of something isn't as deadly.
Nostaferos
Actually the reason is a little more obvious than that. It has been 250-300 years since the Dagoth Ur, when the tools were used to strike the heart of Lorkhan and siphon power from it it damaged the weapons causing them to leak power. Over time they have become so weak that they no longer harm the weilder. Arniel wasn't destroyed by Keening alone but by the combination of effects he cause with the warped soul gem. Now Keening may later still have meaning but it is merely a husk of its former glory, I would even bet Sunder is in the same condition. As for Wraithguard I do not know and can only speculate as to it getting the same detrimental damage done to them, since Wraithguard not only shielded the Nerevarine from the awesome powers of Keening and Sunder but also from the influx of power both tools were siphoning off the Heart of Lorkhan to not only sever Dagoth Ur's connection but to also cut the heart from the plane of Mundus. I do hope that later DLC might bring more purpose to Keening, and the ability to recharge it.
