Luizwsp
I've looked for this mod in a while now, and I haven't found anything like that. I tried to tweak the following ideas using console commands (explanation below), but I failed, I think only a mod could actually work. To explain what I propose, I'm using an example: You're walking somewhere, suddenly you get hit by a creature (HIT 1). You draw your shield and the creature strikes again (HIT 2). Current situation: HIT 1 takes 65 damage. HIT 2 takes 35 damage. Note that this means the shield blocked nearly 50% of the attack, and total damage was 100 hp. Proposal: HIT 1 takes 80 damage. HIT 2 takes 20 damage. The purpose here is to increase the gap between a hit blocked and a hit that isnt blocked. Total damage would still be 100, so it isn't making the game harder nor easier in any way. I believe this modification would make blocking much more satisfying, as the player would actually feel that blocking is necessary and helpful. Second part of it was to mod the meaning of a good and a bad shield. In real life, a good and a bad shield are not different because they block more or less, but because they are more resistant/lighter. I would like this implemented in the game, but I had no idead how to make such thing. Edited November 28, 2011 by Luizwsp

NSCReaver
I think it'd make turtling behind the shield too beneficial, making 2h / dw less on-par than they are now. I find that the game was a bit too easy with a shield and a 1-hander. Going by your math, the what stands out to me is that the unshielded player is just taking 30 extra damage - which would make sense, given the increased damage tradeoff, but that already exists. People without shields would be taking more damage with no upside to the change (particularly dual-wielding, which I'm told is gimp as-is), both of which already don't get the 50% elemental resistance perk. Maybe if you added in other mechanics to balance it? Perhaps a weak parry for dual-wielding, and a small hike to the 2h parry to follow step? Or a downside to blocking without stamina ( I think it's just staggering, but I feel like I never get staggered, even at 0 stam.)? Just my 2 cents, hope it gives some thought. gofortheko
I was thinking this would be about making bash more useful, I think its bugged because I took it on one save and it did no damage from what I seen. It was exactly the same as the base bash you get, it was just a wider bash interrupt. This is with all the perks on that side taken including double damage etc.
peregrine111
the problem is, you can increase effectivity of block pretty high default block with shield is 50% Shield wall increases effectiveness of blocking by 40%. I guess it's not additive, as blocking would stop almost all damage, so: let's say enemy's dmg is 100 damageblock without perks - 50 damageblock with shield wall - 30 damage now enchant Gauntlets with Block (I guess it's 45 at max enchanting with no potion) - 19.5 damagenow enchant Shield with Block - 12.675 damagenow enchant Necklace with Block - 8.239 damagenow enchant Ring with Block - 5.36 damage So you have almost 95% damage reduction, that is amazing, I mean you health can regenerate faster than enemy can damage you. (1 fireball on you -> WHOOPS! you incinerated remains fall on floor) so I guess giving it any more default block percentage would, in the end have effect just for a few levels
